About this listen

In this New York Times bestselling powerful and exciting fantasy set in the world of the Others series, humans and the shape-shifting Others will see whether they can live side by side...without destroying one another.

There are ghost towns in the world—places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others.

One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills—a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children—one of whom is a blood prophet—hope to find acceptance.

But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the outlaw Blackstone Clan will either unite Others and humans...or bury them all.

I have read or listen to this whole series of books and found this book a little perplexing. Sure the others rule here and make decisions on who stays or leaves. Somewhere in the midst of the story it seemed to me that the others teeth and claws were absent and disengaged from the township which I found odd. Not sure why after the first others death , the elders did not clean up the mess as they had done previously.
A little disappointed with the negativity and naivety of the sanguanatti when they had previously lived in Tulland which suffered much from the elders and humans. Hopefully the next book will build on relationships more and not so much isolate the different groups . Overall a fabulous series

Unfortunately this has not been as enjoyable as all Anne Bishops other books. The narrator was so difficult to listen to, her attempt at voices for different characters were at times laughable, and the storyline very tired and predictable. If you are a fan, don’t bother with this book, it will only put you off reading any further books by Bishop. I will not be choosing to listen to books with this narrator ever again.
