Lost in Antarctica.
How long can she survive?
My name is Rachael, and I’m on a solo Antarctic expedition.
But a month ago I lost contact with basecamp.
No radio. No sat phones. Just static.
Only one thing has reached me: a BBC World Service broadcast, reporting a nuclear strike on the UK.
I’m safe for fourteen more days in my little hut at the bottom of the world. But I can’t stay here forever, I have to find out what’s happened.
Even if there’s no one left to tell.

©2025 R.S. Burnett (P)2025 HarperCollins PublishersI started and felt like fast forwarding several times to skip to the end, but I stuck with it. I'm not sure why, now.
The main character is irritating and painfully angst-y. All the characters are unlikeable, and their actions frequently nonsensical.
Any drama was so slow that I sped up the playback because it not only played out so slowly, but was so predictable that I kept thinking I'd read it before, somehow (I hadnt).
I was glad when it ended, though I think I kept hoping that it would have some unforeseen twist and surprise me. It didnt.
That, weirdly, was one of the most disappointing things. Probably because I'd made it to the end and was hoping for the reward of a good ending.
I also think I've heard this narrator before and didn't like her narration then, either. She somehow made the main character sound more angst-y.
Made it to the end but shouldn't have started
