Everything about the story was fresh in that I didn’t know what to expect as it all unfolded and being a bird lover I appreciated all the birding info.

I felt the language was overly descriptive, making this novel, melodramatic. There seemed to me to be a conflict of story, with your attention being constantly diverted. Was it about the birds, or domestic abuse, or the marriage of Saskia, and the chapter when the grandmother takes about the wharf incident to which the daughter says ' yes , she used used to mentioned about Bear being pulled from the wharf all the time' was perplexing as I thought the daughter knew nothing about her mother being in Tasmania.
