About this listen

The arrest of a Finnish contract killer and the subsequent murder of an Edinburgh reporter seem unconnected—until a ghost from the past appears in the investigation.

The horrors of past misdeeds in Northern Ireland, contract killers, military secrets and organised-crime feuds collide on the streets of Edinburgh and the Irish Republic, drawing Detective Grace Macallan into brutal score-settling on Dublin's streets and a life-or-death race against time.

Really enjoyed this one. It’s one of the best in this series by Peter Ritchie. it’s useful to have read earlier stories to be familiar with the previous history of the characters. Brilliantly read once again by Sean Barrett. I hope he never thinks of retiring!

Great story!

A brilliant thriller - not so much for melodramatic scenes, but for the constant sense of impending menace which you know could suddenly explode at any moment and do unpredictable harm to anyone involved.

I literally had to stop the book every so often because I found I kept holding my breath.

And of course, Sean Barrett is as ever the perfect reader for such a book, with his incomparable voix noire

Remember to breathe!
