I do feel so much for Stan and the struggle he has had to endure and overcome as an indigenous journalist and personality. Clearly, his pain is seen in the work but at the same time these essays are afflicted by terms that pass their relevancy since we now live clearly in a postmodern society. One where truth and ethics and values are dependent on ideology and not on what is best for all. In the midst of our post truth, Stan brings forward issues of time, which has been a man made construct that was underpinned by Judeo-Christian concept of record keeping. His love for the modernist English philosophy seems to taint the deeper understanding of country of the dreaming.
I struggled to find connections to his views of solace on silence, tracing back history which is really only a propagandist reflection of what was allowed to be remembered. Wished that he spent more time sharing his view on country, his love for kinship and the continual connection to land and spirit.
