Story
When Sarah, struggling to get over tragedy, stumbles across her grandparents' ruined farm, it feels as if the house has been waiting for her. She is drawn to their apparently idyllic way of life and starts to look into her family history - only to learn that her grandfather, Jack, was murdered. Why has nobody told her? Sarah becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Gwen and Jack. But are there some family stories that should never be told?
Publisher's Summary
After her journalist husband and infant son are brutally executed in a fire in their Florida home, photographer Harper McDaniel has nothing left to live for - except settling the score. When the local police fail to take the arson seriously, Harper takes the reins and discovers her husband was investigating some mysterious deaths at a cacao plantation on the Ivory Coast. Now she's convinced he was targeted in a corporate conspiracy to silence him.
Aided by her former mafioso grandfather and well-connected financier brother, Harper embarks on a global manhunt, flying first to Africa, then Zurich to expose a high-level cover-up inside a powerful chocolate conglomerate.
But Harper has a few secrets of her own - starting with her lethal martial arts skills - and she's not afraid to take on any hired guns or guerrillas standing in her way. In trying to cover their tracks, the conspirators made one fatal miscalculation: they didn't count on Harper McDaniel coming for them.

Absolutely unbelievable and fanciful
A total fantasy book. The categorisation in Audible needs to reflect this more accurately than it does as l purchased the book on the basis of crime not fantasy.
Definately not my type of book - not one to recommended

Fast paced revenge!
What a great surprise this book was! I was browsing kindle unlimited books with narration and came across this one. I usually don't do so well with authors or narrators on kindle unlimited that I'm unfamiliar with but this one gives me hope :)
This is a fast paced, mostly fun story. It starts out with the heroine's husband and infant son getting murdered (that's the not so fun part). She thinks her husband (a journalist) is working on a story about chocolate. It's actually a story about the chocolate industry and slave labor including that of young children and the murder of an entire village to keep his secret. Harper McDaniel, former wife, mother and operative for an alphabet organization for the US is angry and she wants vengeance. With the help of her ex mafioso grandfather and adopted brother she tracks down the executioners.
Michelle Ferguson does a very good job narrating.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fun, fast paced book. Especially from kindle unlimited where it's FREE. I look forward to the next book in this new series since the end of this book leaves you with a lead in for book two.

They killed the wrong woman's husband and baby!
Actually, they killed Harper McDaniel's husband on purpose not considering that she had the training and investigative skills to find them and exact vengeance. It's all about a story about chocolate on which her journalist husband was working when he was murdered. The Kindle version this fast paced novel about justified revenge was a Kindle First selection on August 1. The Audible version was automatically added to my library on August 19 two weeks prior to its official release. I forgot about it until I read Shelley's review.

Not what I expected - in story or quality
I’m always looking for a new author or series to hook me - a character I enjoy and can follow, and will look forward to the next in the series. Unfortunately, this is not going to be that for me.
There was minimal character development, and I found the characteristics, traits, and responses of female lead highly improbable. The international elements of the story were interesting, but there just seemed to be too much going on at the same time. Sometimes I’ve wondered what editors cut out when they provide an abridged version of a book - with this one, I could think of a lot of things that just seemed unnecessary.
While the reader’s pronunciation of French, Spanish, and other non-English words was quite good, I was not a fan of her accents or reading style.
The search for a series to follow goes on...

Fun, fast moving, tale of personal justice.

Solid Mystery
I don’t remember buying this title, at all. But there it was on my phone so I was like “why not”. This is the second book I have encountered in a short time that is about a woman that loses a husband and a child and basically goes looking for their killers. Is this some new sub-genera that I am unaware of?
Harper is a martial arts expert which comes in handy in a lot of situations in this story but also gets her into trouble, yet she is tenacious in trying to find her family’s killers. She faces many foes and obstacles and she weaves through a dangerous mystery laid out before her with the help of her mafia Grandfather and banker brother.
The story was interesting and had a pretty easy to follow mystery. I did guess who the killer was before the end of the story but not too close to Harper's own discovery. I am not sure if this was at Hall’s design or not. This is the first story I have read/listened to by Hall so I have nothing to compare it to but the only issue I had was I never fully engaged with Harper. I would have liked to feel more emotions, especially at some of the horrors that happened, yet I didn’t. All I did was listen and I was never fully captured into Harper's pain or world.
Overall the story is a solid mystery and I am giving it 3 Boundless Stars, it was good.
