He needs answers.

Forensic Psychologist Cyrus Haven believes the truth will set Evie free. Ignoring her warnings, he begins to dig into her past, only to disturb a hornet's nest of corrupt and powerful people who have been waiting to find Evie - the final witness to their crimes. An emotional king hit

I’ve always enjoyed Michael Robotham’s books but this was a masterpiece. A couple of warnings for anyone about to but this book, there’s a strong theme of child sex abuse which may be triggering for some and you need to read the first book in the series to appreciate this one.

My heart broke numerous times hearing about Evie’s past, although it was strongly hinted at in the first book of the series, it becomes the focal point in this one.

It’s a painful story to have unfold but MR presents the subject matter respectfully giving the character of Evie dignity and strength. I was surprised to feel a genuine fondness for a fictional character.

This was a brilliant book if for no other reason than the emotional stories of Evie, Cyrus and numerous minor characters involved, although it’s a cleverly unfolding thriller as well.

The narrator is brilliant, you forget that you’re listening to one person!

If you enjoyed the first you'll enjoy this

after enjoying the first book in this series it was good to have the characters further developed in book 2 and a good story to continue. I'm curious if there will be a book 3 in this series.

A Book That has Left Me Puzzled

As usual with Michael Robotham’s books I couldn’t put it down. The storyline is very relatable due to news items that have surfaced recently.
It will be very interesting to read other reviews in regard to the narration. I found it so annoying.... chapter 3 stays in my mind but all through the book the different voices were distracting to the point that I was going to stop listening to the book.

Captivating

I was almost wishing that my commute wasn’t over yet because I wasn’t done listening and I didn’t want to stop. Very well narrated, really captivating story, good character development (consistent with book 1). Will look forward to more books from this series!

Better than the first

Loved this story much more than the first Evie Cyrus book but it’s still the voices that are off putting.

When a book is good, it's very good

The story of Cyrus and Evie continues with more excitement. The mystery continues with Cyrus trying to unravel all he can about Evie's past while Evie slowly reveals more about her dark past. Cyrus continues to try to help and protect someone who is terrified of being found, and Evie clings hopefully that she won't be deserted again. They are always ready for the push-pull in their relationship. We also get to know a little more about characters introduced in the first book as well as a multitude of new ones. Hope they come back for Book Three. Don't miss this one!

Joe Jameson was fantastic with the delivery of the story

Sadly, a too familiar plot line

No doubt it is a miserable year and when writing this the author would not have had an inkling.
I grimly noticed a day in October 2020 that is referenced in the novel thinking, “ will most of us make it that far?” This is an indirect way of approaching the fact that this novel scarcely diverted me during any listening session .
Cyrus is not a patch on the good old Jo from past series, Parkinsons or not.
Jo the voice actor did a great job with often tedious, soulless writing.
At least there was something to fill the deliberate holding back of the release of most novels during the pandemic.. or I wouldn’t have finished this book.

Decent Thriller

I always enjoy Michael Robotham' books he is a good storyteller and has a real understanding of the psychological underpinning to crime and criminal motivation. This is the second in the Cyrus Haven series and as good as the first and starts to build a picture of Evie Cormac's origins and what lead up to her being found in the secret room. My main beef with both of these books is the narration it is awful why would anyone have a man voice a teenage girl? I am sure Joe Jameson is a good narrator but it totally spoils the books he sounds really odd as Evie. If Evie was narrated by a woman these books would be totally elevated. PLEASE rethink the narration if there is a third book. On a final note these books are very dark focused on child abuse and human trafficking so not a light listen by any means.

Good sequel to Good Girl Bad Girl

A good story, quite disturbing, but tense and enjoyable. There were some times when I was a disappointed in a reaction, or an action as I thought 'he/she wouldn't have thought or done that' but good overall.

Excellent story

I suggest before you read this you read the first book as you need to have the back story to fully understand this book. The author has taken a very difficult storyline and has brought it to life through Evie and Cyrus. I will not say more as plenty of reviewers have said a lot about the story but I hope this is not the end of Cyrus and Evie. Please write a sequel Michael!

Interesting read 😀

I took a chance on buying this as it was on a 2/1 offer and I had not read the first book. However whilst listening this book came together and there was no missing gaps. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was held together well and there was no confusion when each chapter was either character. It was thought provoking in a tense way,but wanting to find the outcome made me want to continue. It had plenty of “ light” moments in it though that did stop it from being “ all dark” the sarcasm from a teenager was absolutely spot on . The only negative slight issue that I had was that maybe some of the other male characters narration sounded the same BUT that didn’t confuse the story, Sorry it ended 😞 listened in 2 days! Lots of cleaning / 2 very late nights 😃

Jameson does a great job of this latest Robotham novel. I’m even starting to like this new shrink as much as the other one (whose name I forget!)
