Publisher's Summary

Elizabeth, the cultured young schoolteacher from the East, has braved the Western frontier and spent a year teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. Now, she and Wynn are planning their wedding and their new life together at his outpost in the far North. While Wynn is accustomed to life in the North, Elizabeth is not. Can their love for each other sustain them through a harsh winter, loneliness, and rigors of life without any of the conveniences they're used to?

Book two of the best-selling Canadian West series, now with a popular TV adaptation on The Hallmark Channel.

Exceeded expectations

A book that definitely brings you on an adventure. An adventure I wasn’t quite expecting—but then, what was I expecting? It was just so different to the first book I guess. With so many landscapes, cultures, challenges & triumphs brought in!

I even felt like it had a touch of Disney! With Tarzan & Pocahontas coming to mind.

Cannot wait to continue on in this Canadian West series. Janette Oke is a very talented writer. Loved the When calls the heart movie, and now I’m loving the book series.

Definitely recommend!

Wonderful story

As a fan of the show, I decided to listen to this between TV seasons. The story was wonderful! Though different from the show in terms of storyline, it was wonderful to learn the inspiration for the show. It was so good that I couldn’t put it down. I finished this one in record time.

Memories

I remember my mom reading these books when I was young. Now that I am an adult, it has been wonderful to feel the connection to my mom as I listen to these books. Plus, my son and I love the show on Hallmark channel!

The first book was better

Nancy's performance was stellar as usual. She exhibits a master of dialects and tones which makes listening such a pleasure.
Interesting story, but i really got bored with Elizabeth's character. She didn't seem to have the same personality as in the first book. She just seemed over the top spoiled. That was just the feeling I got. I just couldn't find empathy with her character.

Sweet Respite!

Man oh man! this was a great read/ listen. Janette Oke is a master writer. Having known of her for years I just could not appreciate her talent until just now. Her writing is clean. No pointless use of foul language, Oke uses her words. No inappropriate sexually explicit scenes, Oke conveys passion through the realistic development of the character and story. I tell you, though difficult to put down, I rest so much better when I finally close my eyes for the night. Her mastery of the storytelling art is a wonder to be wrapped up in and I, for one, am so very grateful to Ms. Oke for the opportunity to be whisked away to the land of imagination but with sufficient reality to convey enough realism. The narrator is, as we say in Jamaica, Boss!!! She is so very good at telling the story with the right inflections. Loved this book! Absolutely loving the series!!!

Wrong book

I was given the wrong book to download. Janette Oke is a wonderful writer. I’ve read ALL of her books. The book I wanted was the first in the Seasons series.
