Publisher's Summary
After a confession of murder, a sleuthing English teacher will need a Christmas miracle to prove a condemned man innocent.
Colorful Christmas lights dapple the family homes in the idyllic lakeside town of Sweet Haven when Jennifer Dean, a young librarian at the local elementary school, is brutally murdered. There are witnesses and her boyfriend Travis Blake confesses to the crime...but something doesn't quite add up. Blake is a third generation Army Ranger, awarded the Silver Star for his heroism in Afghanistan - how could a beloved son of this tight-knit burgh commit such a grisly deed?
As a community of military families a few miles down the road from an Army base, no one in Sweet Haven wants to investigate a war hero like Blake, not even the top brass at the police department. In steps Cameron Winter, a rugged and lonesome English professor haunted by the ghosts of his own Christmas past, whose former lover asks him to prove Blake innocent. The Sweet Haven murder reverberates in his mind, echoing a horrific yuletide memory from his youth, and Winter knows there are darker powers at play here than a simple domestic dispute. If he can solve this small-town mystery, just maybe he can find peace from his inner demons as well.

Stunning story, excellent narration.
The best yet from Andrew Klavan. A mystery, romance, tough-guy novel woven into an intriguing story built around a skeleton of impeccable logic, all with a stunning denouement. It doesn't get any better than this. A true work of art.
High praise too for the narrator who perfectly matches the pensive nature of the central character, with excellent modulation to distinguish the others, while letting the words of the story take centre stage.
As The Daily Wire moves more seriously into making films they must, must have a movie adaption of this book on their program.

A book to read once a year... say around Christmas
This book will go down as a classic. Pacing is spot on, occasionally slow (like ice melting in a whisky tumbler by a Christmas fireplace) and sometimes frantic, the way a thriller should be without going overboard.
I got actual goosebumps whilst listening to the ghost story told near the start... I hope to be able to tell my children and grandchildren stories like that one day.
I also got chills whilst listening to the hunt for the stolen first kiss. Brilliantly set up ... the kind of scene that will stay in my mind for many years to come. It's so refreshing to hear a story that actually leaves a mark.
Keep these coming Klavan, please 🙏🏻

A New Christmas Classic
Andrew Klavan delivers once again with this mystery that is at once melancholic, nostalgic, and ultimately hopeful. Through the excellent narration of Adam Barr, this gripping tale and the already compelling cast of characters are brought to greater life.
When Christmas Comes is the perfect Christmastime read for mystery lovers!

good crime don't let title throw you off
I don't give many reviews but I enjoyed this crime mystery. I was hesitant because of the Christmas title because I don't usually like Christmas stories. I find them to be a novelty and timely kind of story, but it shouldn't let you throw you off. It's a good mystery and interesting plot. Well worth a listen/read.
