Publisher's Summary

Perfect for fans of Cara Hunter.

Why does someone want the Lawrence family dead?

The Lawrences were the perfect family; successful, beautiful and happy until one night their whole world was ripped apart.

Detective Sergeant Jenna Morgan is called to investigate the suspected arson attack and death of the Lawrence family at the charred remains of their stunning home, Kimble Hall.

The case takes a sinister turn as the body count fails to tally.

Suspecting that someone may have survived the inferno, DS Morgan and her team need to discover whether they have a witness or someone far more dangerous.

Who set the fire? Who wanted this family extinguished beyond recognition?

As the case progresses, DS Morgan realises she has a calculating, cold-blooded killer on her hands, and the race is on to track them down before they kill again.

Enjoyable story

I enjoyed the book. It flows well from the others on the series. The narrator is easy to listen to and plays the parts well.

First time for this Author

I was looking for something to read when I came across this book in the audible plus catalog. I am so glad I searched high and low for something to read last night. I was impressed and definitely not disappointed! If you like books with strong female characters and cops, this is your book! I am going back to read the first two books in the series and the one after this one.
What is it going to hurt to try this book? It’s free! All the characters in the police force are interesting. I cried many times for the little Chihuahua and for Poppy!

What She Saw

The second book I have read now from this author and loving her stories. The murders are solved well and enjoy the romance included in. The dog is always good. The narration is very good.

pleasantly surprised

This story was adventurous! I liked how all of the storylines interwove to show how exhausted the main character was throughout the story. The performance of the reader was also captivating. I enjoyed her accent and the different voices she used to discern the characters!

What She Saw

Audio recording. Great story. Some triggers possibly. Spent all day listening to it. Stayed up too late 😴!
Father slaughters entire family 👪, and then burns the house down. One child doesn't die. Police try to figure out who didn't die in the fire. Much more interesting than my synopsis... I recommend.

Good Reading!

How such a small town has so many serious crimes, not to mention nut jobs! Interesting to see how foreign law works. Runs parallel to the U.S. but has a twist at times.

Too long a read

I wanted to like this book. I always give new authors a listen. However, I was 2 and 1/2 hours into the story and nothing was happening to advance the plot any further. Just, endless police procedures and interviews. Our main character, teetering on the edge of angst and indecision. I gave up waiting for the story to progress past the 2 hour mark. I'm going to check for other books by the author, maybe the next one won't plod along.

Good story, good narration

Good story, and the narrator is great. After I started I realized this is book 3, but even with references to past books I wasn't lost. I will go back and listen to the others now though.

too many detours

the start of the story grabbed me but it wandered all over the place after that. It was so hard to stick with what was going on. Maybe (hopefully) it all ties together at the end but I just couldn't tolerate all the diversions so I cut it off less than half way through. I rarely don't finish a book, reading or listening, but this just wasn't enjoyable.

Eh

I’m used to detail but I was yawning during the constant emotional distress of the Detective Sargent Morgan…plus there was never a wrap up of Gordon’s drug “cartel” . Don’t think I’ll ever listen to another by this author.

Filled a listening gap. It was OK.

I had high hopes for the book but the best I can say is that it was OK. I did want to know how it finished but it wasn’t particularly gripping and a few bits were a little far fetched. I didn’t find there was much of an ending either.

Disappointing end

Started all action packed but was then a bit slow in parts and I was disappointed with the ending

What happened to the sub-plot???

A good story that grips you from the beginning, but a major sub plot just vanishes, never to be mentioned again! I'm wondering whether I made a cup of tea at the wrong time.
I also felt that the narrator was completely wrong for this book. I enjoyed Katy Sobey's voice, just not for what could have been a serious crime drama with gravitas. It's a little like how it might sound if Mr. Tumble were recounting a grisly murder.
All in all, it's a good listen as it was free, but I'm glad I didn't use a credit on it.

Promise unfulfilled

The premise had such promise...sadly the author focused almost entirely on tedious description of insignificant activities - many of which related to caffeine intake, to the exclusion of potentially interesting plot lines. Incredible coincidences piled on one after another as the detective seemed to focus on anything other than the job in hand. Shame.

Not an easy listen

Very short story unnecessarily elongated with descriptive adjectives. There’s a lot of descriptions about teeth rattling and other descriptions which are not adding to the overall story but it does take away from the performance and the pleasure of the listen.

Off putting narrator!

Story was interesting enough but the absolutely awful attempts at accents by the narrator 100% put me off for the entire story. Black Country sounded part Welsh, part Yorkshire.

A real PERFORMANCE of a strong story

This is the third Diane Saxon in the series & having read all 3 back to back I'm off now to use one of my Credits to pur hase book 4. Strong, likeable characters, real drama & suspense, properly performed by Katy Sobey who does a really good job with a clear voice. I am hooked!

This was my next book

The story was laid our for you right at the beginning and linked up and connected the characters from the past books .This book for me was more Jennas Morgan's journey and what shaped her and why .Because lot of the story was told at the beginning in detail it read quick even though there were many chapters .you didn't have to wait too long for it all to unfold and you new what was coming .With an unexpected hero .Possibly all tied up for another book as it feels like Jenna Morgan's next chapter is ready to start or another character close to Gemma that takes us forward . It's just how I saw it .I'm hoping there's another book .

Excellent

I really like this series. The book starts strongly and had me totally hooked, and continued at a fast pace as Jenna and her colleagues investigate a fire which killed a whole family, though we soon find out that things are not quite what they seem! The characters are well drawn, and I enjoyed getting to know more about Jenna, who is a brilliant character. I'd love to have her as a friend. I also love Ryan and love the banter between him and Jenna. It was also great to see Domino and his doggy friends feature prominently in this book :-)

Katy Sobey does a great job with the narration, and I can't wait to listen to Book 4.
