About this listen

Sophie Dempsey wants to help her sister film a video and then get out of Temptation, Ohio. Mayor Phin Tucker wants to play pool with the police chief and keep things peaceful. But when Sophie and Phin meet, they both get more than they want. Gossip, blackmail, adultery, murder, vehicular abuse of a corpse, and slightly perverse but excellent sex: all hell breaks loose in Temptation as Sophie and Phin fall deeper and deeper in trouble, and in love.©2006 Jennifer Crusie (P)2006 Brilliance Audio, Inc. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They were strong and funny with quirky traits that lead to challenges. A good read.

What a fun read

I have lost count on how many times I have read the book, and have now listened to the brilliant narrated version that looses none of the magic of reading it. this is like a modern version of a classic 1940s Romcom. Very well written, sparkling dialogue, often intensely funny, great characters and well developed chemistry/romance between leads. relationship was speedy, but so well crafted it felt believable and still developed throughout story, in a light hearted but realistic way. while it was written almost 3 decades ago, I don't feel it has dated itself as the cliches are consciously used, and none of the women are powerless simpering idiots. Background story that it hangs on is well suited to plot, and provides its own humour. Loves scenes are hot without being laboriously detailed and over-long. I hope I don't stop loving it as much as I do each time I read/listen - think other writers in this genre need to take notes.

Amazing Read

I loved the flawed characters and the convoluted thinking and actions that they went through. However, it was slow to really get going and I almost gave up on it early on. Glad I kept going though, and in retrospect I realise that the slow start was probably necessary to fully develop the characters and the nature of the town so as to understand the storyline later on.
If you feel the same at the start, I recommend you keep reading/listening as it's worth it to finish.

Slow to start, but an excellent finish
