Publisher's Summary

Rian Thompson thought she joined the gym to get healthy. Little did she know she was about to add 190 pounds of swoonworthy abdominal muscles and arrogance to her life.

Every day in Rians's life follows a predictable pattern, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She's got a nice job, a nice place to live, and a nice family - even if they are a little wedding-zilla-ish at the moment.

She doesn't need anything spectacular to be happy. She just needs to get healthy - mentally, physically...and maybe spiritually if that happens. But she'll settle for two out of three until her sister finally gets hitched.

Carlos Davies thought his life was perfect. Little did he know it was about to be turned upside down by a woman who is not his type.

In Carlos' mind, his life is damn near perfect. He's got a great job, a great place to live, and a great stash of pickup lines that always work. It has occurred to him that maybe no one actually takes him all that seriously. But with these bulging biceps and thick, dark hair, does that even matter since he's never sleeping alone?

Welcome to Weight Expectations, where great - and unexpected - things happen.

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed that and loved the inclusion of older characters from Penny Reids books. I did struggle a little with the male narrator but it had a great story line that kept me going till the end.

Male narrator off putting

Male narrator in this book sounds creepy, it ruins the story - makes it hard to focus on the story

Glad I was wrong about this one

I was a little concerned given the title of the book but thankfully that is the name of the gym where the characters meet rather than a fat phobic comment. I love the universe this is set in, basically Penny Reid is incredible, so gave it a go. The nightmare that is the US work provided healthcare forces Rian to join a gym to lose weight (side note weight has nothing to do with health), she also has pressure from family to fit the aesthetic of her skinny sisters wedding. Carlos is a regular and has issues with trying to feel big/attractive enough. Carlos only has one night stands with pretty women without ambition and with a certain gym bunny aesthetic. He becomes friends with Rian which leads to enemies to him giving her a job to lovers. The ‘he changes for her’ story isn’t my favourite but it is done relatively well here. I’ll try others to see what the author can do as she gets more comfortable with the world.

Really enjoyed

Yes the male voice actor is a little slow, but he can really throw his voice well and u enjoyed both voice actors.
The storyline is well thought out and really has sarcastic humour which I loved.

Terrible male accent but good story

As someone who struggles with weight issues, it was really relatable. Just couldn't stand the voice of the male narrator. He sounded like a less intelligent person because of his voice.

worst male narration ever

If the male narration was included in the sample, I would not have purchased this book. Not quite sure why Alex Kydd chose to use a smarmy, Rocky accent but the second I heard it I wanted to scrape it out of my ears. Maybe he used that accent because the male character was an awful human being. Sorry but I returned this one unfinished.
