Critic Reviews

"Hurwitz's intelligent, skillfully plotted thriller, with its clever mystery and undercurrent of menace, is a gripping read." ( Sunday Telegraph on I See You)
"A thrilling, mind- bending journey, it is also deeply humane and beautifully written. You'll turn the final page with profound regret." (Dennis Lehane on I See You)

Excellent thriller

Really enjoyed this book. Narration was spot on and easy to listen to.

Too often American thrillers can be overlong, overwritten and badly in need of the blue pencil, however this novel was beautifully judged - I really felt for our hero and although I guessed some of the main plot, still found the denouement interesting and exciting. I'm looking forward to reading other books by this author.

Another gripping book. I Love this author

I loved this book, if you like a fast paced gripping book then you have to read Gregg Hurwitz. I have listened to 6 of his books in a row and not been disappointed. Jeff Harding is fabulous! It took a chapter to get used to the American accent, but wow! He’s amazing with his characters and accents.

Surprised!

I have started this three times thinking I just wasn't concentrating but no... It wouldn't click for me. The characters were difficult, the storyline weak. First Gregg I've been unable to enjoy.

A new author for me but a really good story

very well read by Jeff Harding. I could listen to his voice for hours. The story was unusual in a good way. Not a plot that I had heard before. If your tired of listening to the same old authors as I was, give this book a try.

Good book. Brilliant Narration

Good book from an excellent author. The story has a great deal of twists and turns and good characters. As usual Jeff's narration is outstanding.

Good, not great

An enjoyable thriller that, whilst being very readable, didn't make a big impression. The plot was well thought out and the pace kept up throughout. A solid four stars.

Love these books!!

This book kept me entertained the whole way through. This writer is able to vary every book so much that not one is the same and never dull. Can't wait for the next one!!!

Not to my liking

It’s ok but I think it could of done with some action , if you were up against the CIA and the president the story would of being over in five minutes a specially when nick had no military training, The author let the reader done . Sorry for the bad feed back . Yours John Whelan

Well read if slightly confusing

Jeff Harding performed this book very well. Clear and distinct voices. Accents excellent. Evenly paced. As other reviewers have mentioned there is the very odd edit jump. Maybe only half a second. Doesn't detract from the book. Gregg Hurwitz has created a different sort of character to Orphan X. No super martial arts. A voluntary worker who cares about down and outs. There were some great scenes in this book. Even very funny pastiches on Hurwitz own work which had me laughing along. The characters feel real. There are procedural real life delays. For those readers who are fed up of the boffin or police contact who seems to be able to turn up any information the protagonist needs. There is the refreshing slowness of enquiries. The contacts who won't play ball. Even the McGuffin, when revealed, is dangerous to possess but of no value to anyone else. Sometimes I got confused and had to listen to the chapters over and over. It may have been the chapter structure, or a technical issue. I might return to the book and find I had inadvertently missed something or the resume was not where I remembered.

gripping thriller

This was one of those books I couldnt stop listening too, and it pulled me along through every emotion possible, from sheer fright; shock, horror at such callousness to other humans and tears, to titters of laughter. A roller coaster of emotions! Extremely well read with sensitive nuances by one of my favourite narrators, Jeff Harding. If you like a who done it with twists this wont disappoint.
