Publisher's Summary

AN INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

'Waypoints is a memoir with a difference! I wanted to tell the stories and share the experiences that have shaped me, but to do that I needed to challenge myself and spend some time in my own company, away from the distractions of everyday life. And for me there's no better place to reflect than in the wild Scottish Highlands.'

In this journey of self-discovery, Sam Heughan sets out along the West Highland Way to explore his heritage and reflect on the personal waypoints that define him. The result is a love letter to the wild Scottish landscape that means so much to Sam, and a charming, funny, wise and searching insight to the world through his eyes.

The walk itself is the backdrop for this narrative, which tells the story of Sam's life while exploring his outlook, values and interests. Sam is a figure of fascinating contrasts, a Hollywood star with deep roots in rural Scotland, he's both outgoing and content in his own company. He has strong connections with his fans while recognising the fragility and value of anonymity, and in My Peak Challenge he has created a network that brings people together as they chase individual goals. In his new book, while charting a path through a stunning wilderness, Sam maps out the moments that shaped his views on dreams and ambition, family, friendships, love and life.

Waypoints is a deeply personal journey that reveals as much to Sam about himself as it does to his listeners.

Enthralling and intimate!! What a journey.

From the moment of the forward I was just enthralled. What an insight into the journey of not only the spontaneous decision to walk the West Highland Way but to how this man became the artist, the philanthropist, the entrepreneur and the man Sam Heughan. I felt like I was there walking side by side through the Scottish countryside, through the times of doubt and elation. What a privilege it was to discover Sam’s waypoints. Thank you for a brief but intimate glimpse of Scotland and of you.

Amazing story teller

What a journey of every emotion and physical feats . Honesty humility and a grand sense of humour made this a really enthralling and engaging listen. Sam is a fantastic collector of emotion and inner thoughts of the important milestones but also the little antidotes of the people he met. Listen or read this fab book it will bring you joy

A Journey

With Sam's rich, deep, slightly accented voice, it was so easy to listen to his journey of the Highland Way interjected with snippets of his present life and the fallout and cons of a Father who left. Sam is well balanced and this presents itself via his words....loved both. Descriptive, I walked with him and felt his elation when he, not so much achieved, but realised what was happening and learned from it. Perception and an open mind, forgiveness, doggedness, awakening....Waypoints has it all, even talking with Mushrooms (nature's companions on his walk) and the joy of the two other human travelling companions who enriched his journey. I'll read and or listen to this again.

Great insight

I loved hearing Sam’s accent and his story. Really interesting to know how how long he persevered for that final big break. And it’s inspiring and reminding me of hiking in Scotland!

A great listen & and insightful story

I really enjoyed listening to Sam’s story. I don’t normally choose to read autobiographies but I found this one to be different from most others I’ve read. Sam’s journey through the highlands was a great way for him to reflect on his life so far. Can’t wait to hear more as he progresses through life and career.
