Publisher's Summary

It’s a tale as old as time: The bad boy meets the good girl. He makes a daring proposition. Then the boy gets a mysterious head injury and loses a year of his life....

The first time I meet Rickie, I don’t know what to make of him. The second time we meet, he doesn’t remember the six hours we spent together. Or standing me up afterward.

I’m not the same, either. I’ve got secrets. I’ve told lies. Bad boys aren’t my type, anyway. Even the ones with troubled gray eyes.

But now we’re roommates. Cue the awkward moments in the hallway when he’s wearing only a towel and a smile. He’s determined to win me over, and his talented hands weaken my resolve.

It’s all fun and games until my past rears its ugly head and his secrets come to light, shaking our fragile connection, maybe even breaking it....

Note: This is Daphne Shipley's story. Contents include Vermont-y ice cream flavors, nerdy awkwardness, tattoos, and a playboy grandpa.

Another brilliant True North story

Sarina does it again! I was unsure any this book based on the short description but I was completely wrong. I couldn’t have loved Rickey, our hero, any more. And Daphne Shipley too, of course. Both H/h had very interesting back stories. They grew their friendship and let that blossom. To see how’s their past and present come together in the end was crazy and awesome.

A mystery wrapped in a small town romance. Sarina at her best

Sarina is a auto buy author for me and she has never write a book I do not enjoy. True North is a favorite of mine because the Shipley is the most wholesome American family but everyone has a cross to bear. I love how the mystery of their missed date unravels as the story progresses and the character arc she put them through. The amazing thing about Sarina’s writing is that underneath the wholesome setting of rural Vermont lies the darkness that’s pull you in. As the story builds Zachary really elevates his story arc with his performance. Thank you for giving Daphne such an amazing story. You truly outdid yourself with this.

Bigger than that bear,

it was told like describing what's happening, you are in the story, these people become liked & disliked, I have enjoyed the books in these series with all the criss crossing families friends whoever!!. This is the last one ? Been listening to them 6 weeks or more. Just love the family, the set of story tellers, tell it as well as a house full of siblings with their "baggage" spilling the beans on each other. So ...awesome, I laughed, I cried, I hurt, well told from book one first story oldest kid to the last mystery of 6 months vanishing & faith, values. lots of lots of LOVE. My kind of series'❤

Wonderful story

I loved Waylaid so much. It was steamy, heartbreaking and just exciting to read. It was awesome to go back to Vermont and thursday dinners at the Shipley's. Now I wish I could move in with Daphne and the others on Spruce Street in Burlington.

Zachary Webber did an awesome job and brought the story to life. The transition to the female narrator was rough. It sounded robotic at first, but I don't know if that was because of her voice or something with the recording. It did get better as the book went on, but I was still longing for chapters from Rickie's POV, so I cold hear Zachary Webber read instead.

All the stars!

Sarina Bowen never disappoints with her story telling. I’ve been holding on to this book for a while now and finally was able to listen to it. Narration was great and lent to the whole “ambiance” of the tale.

Zachary Webber you can't go wrong!

This book was a book that you could figure out what happened at the very beginning. I simply love Zachary Webber, and will read anything that he narrates!! I could not wait until the end to come. Nine hours is a long time when you are just not into it!! The female voice was absolutely horrible, and that is why I could not get into this book. She has a squeaky voice that drove me crazy!! This is the first book that I have read that she narrated. So my advice is to purchase the book because Zachary is awesome!!

Female narrator was a challenge

Z Webber is always swoony but the girl narrator was meh. I got used to it in time but it took about half the book

Powerful Romance!

“We are all trying to survive our pasts, so we can live with ourselves in the present.”

This story absolutely stole my heart and I loved every minute of listening to it. I am a huge fan of the True North series, every book makes me want to pack my bags and head to the farm in Vermont with the whole Shipley family. The heart of this storyline was so much deeper than I expected with both Daphne and Rickie experiencing some truly tragic and painful moments in their past but my heart was invested and so in love with this story. Even with the tough subject matter this story had me laughing and smiling and genuinely falling in love through their sexy banter and journey to friendship and so much more.

“Maybe I don't need a reason to kiss a bad boy in the starlight. It's such a relief to sink into his touch. And to stop thinking so hard.”

Daphne is so hard on herself, she is part of this big tight knit family but doesn’t feel like she can open herself up to them anymore. Family played a big role in this story and the Shipley’s truly are so open and loving, and Daphne’s journey to forgiving herself and letting them back in had me a little misty eyed.

And Rickie, he is the biggest sweetheart, he is flirtatious and funny and just an all around great guy. I LOVED him for Daphne, the two of them together just felt right, he was the laughter and light that she needed in her life. But my empathetic heart hurt so much for Rickie and all his struggles to get his memory back, I wanted to wrap him in my arms for a hug! There was the perfect amount of heat, laughter and moments of overcoming tragedy that truly made this a great listen for me!

Best yet ❤️❤️❤️

I love everything about this series, book and the characters. I’ve read or listened to almost all of Sarina Bowen’s work. I throughly enjoy how she carries a little thread of her Brooklyn Bruisers series, Ivy Years series, and the Gravity series throughout her stories.

Waylaid felt like meeting a new friend that feels familiar while wearing my favorite pair of broken in jeans and t-shirt. It was a little uncomfortable at first but settled into being the most comfortable thing ever.

I can’t wait to catch a glimpse of Daphne and Rickie in a future Bowen book.

One note for readers with sensitivity to evil bastards and trauma. The story maybe difficult to read as it unfolds.

On the other hand sexy time between Daphne and Rickie are endearingly delicious.

Enjoyable listen

I enjoyed listening to this book. I knocked a star off because it lost its pace around the middle, and Daphne was a bit frustrating at times - but still a good story.
