James Lee Burke writes enthralling epics.
James Lee Burke writes enthralling epics, describing American life before and after WW11 with meticulous detail and Will Patton is one of only a few narrators who could do these books justice. In the style of the Golden Oldies, when blockbuster movies did not rely on stunts and special effects and bad language was not common or necessary, James Lee Burke's tales feature, in no particular order, heroism, murder, mystery, suspense, love, romance, betrayal. A top tier effort and nothing short of a Classic.

Quality
Like nearly every other book written by Mr. Burke and narrated by Mr. Patten, this excellent novel kept me interested the whole time. James Lee is a league apart. Upon finishing, I felt joy, and a little sadness, not unlike the feeling of losing a close friend. I will listen to this again in the future, maybe next time I won't still feel like I want to cry after the epilogue.

A fantastic story
A wonderfully written story that touches on so many faucets of life from love to hate, from honesty to lies, from kindness to cruelty. It spans a period of history that starts in the depression, progresses to the death camps in Nazi Germany and comes to rest in the oil fields of Texas. Beautifully read it's one of the finest stories I've listened to. Burke is a genius !

Another good book
What made the experience of listening to Wayfaring Stranger the most enjoyable?
James Lee Burke is a littery poet. His words and prose that describe the simplest of things is pure poetry.
His knowledge on the subject books he writes about is very intensive, a real master story teller.
Will Patton with his southern drawl brings the books to life.
