About this listen

At 29, Claire is full of the joys of life - that is, until her husband leaves her on the day she gives birth to her baby. With a broken heart, a beautiful newly born and an expanding mirror image, she decides to visit her eccentric family in Dublin. There she starts to feel better. So much better, in fact, that James is in for a surprise when he decides to slither back into her life.

The characters were interesting but underdeveloped, so was the storyline, it was boring. I could not be bothered finishing it.

I tried, but couldn't last

pure 'chick lit' in the vest possible way. if you need an enjoyable story that doesn't take itself too seriously this is a great one.

Marian Keyes never disappoints

I found it disconcerting that the narrator sounded nothing like what I expected the character to sound like. The story was long winded and towards the end I found myself very frustrated at the main character. I persevered but it didn’t get better in my opinion

Disappointing

I agree with other reviews that this is isn’t the authors best work. I had trouble reconciling the main characters obsession with her love life when she had just given birth; as a mother myself the obsession would be with her beautiful baby. However, it was the narration that I found most off putting. The voices given to the characters, the especially James were a little annoying.

I was a little disappointed

In typical Marian Keyes style, this novel is funny, quirky and entertaining. I love all the fun characters and the Irish humour.

I love Marian Keyes' books but this wasn't as good as her other books. I then realised this was her first novel so I'm not as critical as I initially was. The story is good but it was just a bit drawn out in the middle and dragged. I did enjoy it more when the pace picked up and enjoyed the ending.

A bit drawn out in the middle, but it was the authors first novel. I love all her other books.

I absolutely loved the narrator. I could listen to her all day. Combined the Marian’s quirky perspective the book was thoroughly enjoyable and so entertaining. I wish she narrated more of Marian’s books!!

Enjoyable story massively enhanced by the narration

So many tedious moments that were dragged out from Claire. Opportunity to explore some of the main characters a bit more. Left a bit deflated with the very end. Actually thought I’d missed a chapter!

I liked the Dublin family
