Publisher's Summary

Rachel Walsh is 27 and the miserable owner of size 8 feet. She has regular congress with Luke Costello, a man who wears his leather trousers tight. And she's fond - some might say too fond - of recreational drugs.

Until, that is, everything goes pear-shaped and she finds herself being frog-marched to the Cloisters - Dublin's answer to the Betty Ford Clinic. She's outraged. Surely she's not thin enough to be an addict?

Rachel isn't expecting plump, middle-aged men in brown jumpers, and more group therapy than you can shake a stick at. Heartsick and Lovesick, she seeks redemption in the shape of Chris - a man who might be more trouble than he's worth.

Fun, non-sloshy romantic drama and drug rehab

I've not heard books by this narrator before but I enjoyed her style, and ability to easily portray different characters and their personalities. I'll be downloading more of hers. The story was entertaining, combinging the impact of drugs on family and friend relationships, in a light-hearted manner.

This book was gripping

I could not stop listening. Couldn’t help but truly believe M K was not Rachel herself so compelling was her portrayal. One would hope this book would be of great help to anyone going through recovery. For those not, an enlightenment. Thank you.

Very funny

This was one of the funniest books I've ever read. So many laugh out loud moments. While I didn't particularly enjoy the book's main subject and found the main character irritating, the more I listened the more I enjoyed the overall story.

Brilliant story!

I couldn't stop listening, such a brilliant story and so well portrayed. Highly recommend listening/reading this story. My only negative would be that the narrator sounded a bit too old for the character.

Terrible

Over 16 hours of someone complaining while being the obvious source of her own problems. There are plenty of better ways to spend your time, such as reading a different book.

the narration is PAINFUL.

the narrator was dreadful, and accents were terrible. story was average, quite old school as book is from 90s

Intriguing take on addiction

I felt educated and intrigued by this story. Told from the POV of an addict I found the reflections, observations and interpretation of encounters and relationships incredibly but fascinatingly ego-centric and juvenile but conversely, incredibly comical. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of Rachel's growth and recovery which was sometimes uncomfortable and confronting but also sometimes equally amusing. Thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I'm not so convinced the narrator was suitably cast. Gerri Halligan has an older voice, so I found it difficult to reconcile with a character supposedly in her 20's read by someone who sounds easily 40+. That said, she has a wonderful knack for characterisation and brought life to all the characters.... but the attempted variations on ethnically-affected American accents weren't so well done.
