Publisher's Summary

In the world of Draenor, the strong and fiercely independent Frostwolf Clan are faced with increasingly harsh winters and thinning herds. When Gul'dan, a mysterious outsider, arrives in Frostfire Ridge offering word of new hunting lands, Durotan, the clan's chieftain, must make an impossible decision: abandon the territory, pride and traditions of his people or lead them into the unknown.

An original tale of survival, conflict and magic that leads directly into the events of Warcraft, an epic adventure from Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures based on Blizzard Entertainment's global phenomenon.

great story

it's one of the best warcraft novels. I enjoyed it even though I have a deep hate for the horde. It's even better than the movie.

Another enjoyable Warcraft expansion pack

Having watched the movie 'Warcraft' & played the original real time strategy (RTS) games before listening to the prequel, I was easily swept up in an enjoyable nostalgic experience.

The audio book offers a greater glimpse into the shamanistic + tribal culture of the Orcs from the Frost Wolf Clan & the tragic circumstances that led them to join Guldan's horde in the 'Warcraft' movie.

Toby Longworth's narration pleasantly brings the story to life. It's paced like the original RTS games & the inner child within me yearns for a 'Warcraft 3' expansion pack that allows me to play through each adventure. A great addition to any 'Warcraft' fan's collection.

Great lead up to the movie.

Loved the story and the story telling. After listening to many Star Wars books however I wish this Audiobook had some sound effects and music added in like the Star Wars books do. It would have topped it off for me.

Great for fans and loremasters alike

In all the book was very entertaining and the narrator did an exceptional job. The one thing that may have threw me off at first was the narrators accent. Prepare for British orcs. Other than that, a great story and experience overall.

Another great Christie Golden book

Some may overlook this one since there were a few other wow books released around the same time, but I suggest this not missing it. The story touches on struggles and the foundation of the orcs in a compelling way. The story pulls you in and if you are a fan of other wow books it is one to definitely pick up.

Great Interpretation

Varies from the original story a little bit, but still a good interpretation. Sets up the movie nicely.

Awesome!

After how this book starts and getting to know Durotan and his clan, it was incomprehensible how they arrived in the situation they were in at the beginning of the movie Warcraft but after being on that journey with them you begin to understand and sympathize and end up utterly amazed.

A lukewarm book

Despite loving C.G.'s book, for the most part, this prequel seems very washed out and tacked on.
Compared to her previous work in Lord of the clans; Rise of the Horde; Arthas; and Tides of Darkness, Warcraft: Durotan lacks whatever else the others had to make them so enthralling.

setting aside the fact that this is a movie adaptation - ergo a lot of the story and characters background is incorrect or "adjusted", the book reads in a very dull manner and failed to grasp me, I did not feel like I had to have "more" like those books that you just can't put down and you itch to pick it up again whenever you can.
The story is dull, and apart from conversations with Gul'Dan and the odd battle with the "other" orcs, nothing else managed to keep me ar the edge of my seat or aching for more.

My strong advice is to read Rise of the Horde, by the same author, instead. By doing so you will be getting a much better story AND the accurate Durotan story.

Things like Durotan only catching "glimpses" of Draenei through his lifetime, instead of, well, what actually happened, made me cringe.

Give this one a skip and pick up the real Durotan prequel with Rise of the Horde, and trust me, you'll understand much better why Durotan is such an honorable yet burdened orc.

Amazing but lacking action

This was my first audio book experience and it was amazing! I found myself excited to get a spare half hour to sit down and listen to it. The story is amazing and the characters are portrayed fantastically.

If I had to criticise I would say the book itself could have a little more action.

Great for free trial.

loved the story, really enjoyed the performance. Looked at other books and refuse to pay the amount asked for them, which is disappointing. Far too expensive for what they are.

why are the orcs cockney?

why does guldan sound like a puckish rogue? the fact that everyone sounds like a wimp and the red orcs sound like a poor arnie knock off is what put me off. the reading outside of the speaking parts are great and easy listening, but no effort was put into character voices, and why did dektar go from sounding like a troll to a soft spoken gentleman? the lack of effort made it hard to a defrenciate between characters.

Proud Orcs!

I greatly enjoyed the tone of this book and the representation of the orcs in this world. The presentation of their rituals and their sense of pride and honour. It made connecting with their story all the more touching.

The narrator did an excellent job of putting some variety in the gruff voices of the orcs, as it would be very easy to have them all sound very similar.

Having finished this just before going to see the movie, I can confirm that it's a great lead up, which had me feeling far more empathy for some of the characters that make it beyond this story and into the new feature film.
