Not as good as his later books

A bit cliche, a bit slow and confusing in parts, but not too bad overall. His writing style really improved in his subsequent books.

great story

my only negative of this reading is the narrator tended to lower his voice for dramatic effect quite often and it was hard to catch everything he was saying clearly, thus only 4 stars for performance. Other than that a great action story with a very intriguing scientific plot line. If there is a sequel, I would definitely listen!

Good, but not great.

I liked it, but to me the narrator made it a little less than perfect. The plot is DEFINITELY unique and the story keeps a great pace till the end, with surprise after surprise. Yes, it's definitely a medical, biotechnological, action packed thriller and yes it's definitely interesting, but the characters are almost TOO perfect. It has a potential to become a series, but it needs a little more realism and to come down a little from the clouds before I think this character will go main-stream.

Worth the credit, but not an all out purchase, if that makes sense. I'll read another of his books if he writes one just to see how the author progresses.

Too Over The Top

I actually chose this book because it had a sequel but have no plans to read the next one. The premise was interesting. I liked the suspense. The tech stuff was fun. I wanted to find out what happened but just couldn't make myself listen to any more of the overly dramatic dialogue. If a superhero comic book could be made into an audiobook this would be it!
Note to self. Be more thorough in reading all reviews. Not everyone likes the same style.

Fun Lite Science Fiction Thriller

Fun SciFi about enhancing our brains. Writers heroes are always a bit too lucky and pure but I like them anyway because they have a type of 60's comic book personality about them. Enjoy all the authors books and this is fun entertainment also with a bit of science to help one feel they learned something too.

Great premise and potential, poor delivery

What did you like best about WIRED? What did you like least?

Story has a great premise in it, and it also starts great, but it becomes a bore and predictable and there isn't any action or surprising or thrilling portion past the half time.
also to make matters worse, the narrator is pretty bad, he whispers a lot which makes it hard to hear (he thinks that that's how women sounds) and this also makes you turn the volume up and down all the time (I listen in the car) which is annoying.

Annoying

What did you like best about WIRED? What did you like least?

In all fairness, I turned it off after about 30 minutes and read the Kindle version, so my opinion is based on the first 30 minutes of the audio version. I listen to a lot of audio books, and this is by far the worst narration I have heard. It is read in almost a singsongy cadence, and he drops his voice at the end of every sentence and sometimes at the end of phrases within sentences. Trying to listen in the car I missed enough of what was going on that I had to start back at the beginning when I switched to the Kindle. I got the audio version for $3.49 when I bought the Kindle version, but if I had paid full price or spent a credit I think I would have asked for my money back.

Boring!

The first several chapters seemed to provide some promise of interest, but Wired goes downhill fast and never recovers. I usually like contemporary SciFi, but not this book.

Very Good

Any additional comments?

The first fourteen chapters kind of run-on without enough character development IMO, but in chapter fifteen things get interesting and then it just keeps getting better. A talented new writer whom I'll be following in the future.

Riveting!

Insightful and very thought provoking. If you haven't read/listened to Douglas E Richards, this is a good novel to start with!

Narrator's voice is annoying

Voice annoyingly jumps from loud to quiet and because of that sometimes it is hard to follow.

Good story, quiet reader

The reader was too quiet at times, the whispering especially made it hard to listen. But the story itself was guaranteed quality from Richards.
