Publisher's Summary

Ten years ago, a breakthrough book launched a ministry that has helped more than one million people overcome this world and win the battle for their hearts and minds. Now Neil Anderson has revised and expanded Victory Over the Darkness for a new generation of listeners, outlining practical and more productive paths to Christian growth based on Christ's promise: "You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

Victory Over the Darkness emphasizes the importance of believing and internalizing the cardinal truths of Scripture as a base from which to renew the mind and fend off Satan's relentless attempt to convince us that we are less than Christ empowers us to be.

A must read!

I really enjoyed this book. Narrative was good, he speaks a little quick at times but with the 30 sec rewind I could go back as many times as I needed. Listened to it twice. Eye opening. Life changing. Highly recommend!

The author/narrator speKs a bit too fast but is clearly enthusiastic.

Steps to freedom!

This book is a wonderful book introducing the Steps to Freedom in Christ. Neil Anderson narrated his own book so you definately know what the author was expressing during the writings. I recommend this book to anyone struggling with circumstances and life in general. This book will explain why and how these feelings rise in someone and how to regain the peace and faith in God.

Who are you?

I have this book in paperback, so this audio is a review for me. It was comforting and renewing to internalize again. In a conversational tone, (with a few chuckles along the way), Dr. Anderson reminds you WHO YOU ARE in Christ, which enables you to "fight the good fight". It's like having him sitting in your living room with you or having a cup of coffee with him at your dining room table. I recommend it to all Christians. After reading this book the first time, I had an online conversation with a sister who obviously had not heard these things at her church. In the course of the conversation, she commented, "well who do you think I am, some princess, or something?" My answer was, "not in and of yourself, but by virtue of who you are in Christ, yes, you are a princess". Some of the chapter titles: "Who are you?" "Forever different" "See Yourself for Who You Really Are" "Something Old, Something New" "Becoming the Spiritual Person You Want to Be" "The Power of Positive Believing" "You Can't Live Beyond What You Believe" "Winning the Battle for Your Mind" "Healing Emotional Wounds from Your Past".
This is not a book on spiritual warfare, per se, but if it interests you, he has written "The Bondage Breaker" and "The Beginner's Guide to Spiritual Warfare", among others.

Helped me know who I truly am

I've listened twice and I expect to listen a few more times shortly. Why? Well, something in the telling of it really brought home that I don't need to try to be what I already am: God's child. Hallelujah!

the best tagline for this book: For God's Children: Stop trying to be what you already are

Glad to have read this book

What did you love best about Victory Over the Darkness?

I read the paperback first but my sister was have trouble making time to read the book. So we got this audio download. Loved it. It followed the book closely and I did not feel like there was much skipped from the book in the audio though it is listed as abridged.

What did you like best about this story?

Enjoyed hearing Truth. Made my heart sing.

What about Neil T. Anderson’s performance did you like?

Neil read it in a conversational tone. That made it easy to listen to, even in one seating.

Different from hardcopy

My small group is studying this book, and it turns out the audiobook is different from the hard copy. Which also means it is different from the study guide. Overall it is a good audiobook, but i couldnt figure out why the study guide seemed to have unrelated questions, and i seemed to be out of sync with the rest of my group.

Content is good but...

I hate to say this but I couldn’t finish this. The presentation / reading of this material is garbage. I this is a book where it’s better to get the printed version. The author “reads” it but seems to be rushing through it and it really just sounds like it’s just talking. It’s very monotone and then there is a completely different voice that reads the scriptures. To top it all off, there is some cheesy music between chapters.

Listened twice and really enjoyed Neil

The audiobook is very different from the written version. Essentially the same content is there but the audio is very conversational with the stories that illustrate his points coming at a different place and order than in the book. The written book is more instructive. The audio is a cross between hearing a good sermon, going for counseling, and having the pastor over for dinner.

Do not buy the audio to listen while you read. The audiobook is a stand alone experience.

Get a copy of the book to be able to read over, again and again, the scriptures on identity in Christ. The text references are all in the paper copy which therefore gives a wonderful opportunity to read the context and do a deep dive into my identity in Christ in His Word.

This is a great book for anyone feeling defeated as a Christian.

Fabulous content, delivered at breakneck pace

I struggled with the reading speed and felt like Goldilocks/ too fast, too slow, when I tried to listen at a slower speed. It was never just right!

I really wanted to savour his truths but alas, not able.
