Publisher's Summary

A shocking twist of fate reunites a quiet school teacher with her childhood nemesis and greatest love.

Shy and modest Lina Montez has been infatuated with Tobias Langthorne, heir to a Napa Valley land fortune, for as long as she can remember. Growing up alongside the intoxicatingly handsome bully on his family’s fabled vineyard and estate was an experience she will never forget. The young “lord of the manor” spent countless hours tormenting the housekeeper’s daughter as well as inspiring her budding sexual desire.

Ten years later, Lina finds Tobias as provocative and dangerous as ever, but embittered by divorce and haunted by his own demons of the past. Now Lina must battle her old playmate to save the land she loves, but this time she won’t be intimidated by her sexually magnetic business partner. The biggest struggle of all, however, is the one within herself. Can she fight off an attraction that is as ripe and full bodied as the lush cabernet grapes they farm? And will she breathe new life into the forsaken ranch as well as polish the rust from her tarnished hero?

I loved this romance!

I binge-read this! The characters were complex and the plot line was exciting. The tension between Tobias and Lina kept building and building! And the narrator gave me goosebumps. Highly recommend!

Wimpy heroine that accepts abuse

How did this book get such good ratings! Growing up on the same property, not really friends. He is often mean with his actions and comments, tormenting her. Yet, she insists she is in love with him, she allows him to take advantage; no self esteem.
Then the are adults and return to where they grew up. He is angry and mean, she allows this, with some mild attempts to "fight back".
SPOILER ALERT: Even though his is rude and aggressive, she is unable to deny sexual actions, at least to significant degree. She melts because he is so "hot". Eventually, she does leave, in the process, he rapes her. Eventually, they meet up, discuss. He is aggressive and demanding, suddenly, for the last part of the book he is caring and considerate. The self talk on her part was middle school. As I read it, I thought maybe a man had written this book, to make the woman so weak.

I would have wanted to know more about the "relationship" before buying, thus, will be returning it.
Also, poor research on the medical portion (a small segment of the book).

At lease 6 hours too long!

I was amazed at the number of very positive reviews of this book. There is no accounting for such differences in taste.

The book was much longer than it needed to be; at lease 6 hours too long! I feel obligated to listen to the whole book when I have been gifted it for an honest review, but it was very difficult to finish this book.

The writing efforts seemed very amateurish to me. Their love/hate relationship drags on and on! The repetitive side comments of Lina: Tobias Langthorne looking at me, Tobias Langthorne touching me, etc. drove me nuts! She was impossible to like. I enjoy erotic romance and erotica, but there are much, much better books in this genre to enjoy.

My first impression of the narrator was negative. The narration was less of a problem as I continued to listen to the book.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Couldn't finish...

Audible. Also on KU.

DNF at 4 hours (33%). I tried. I even walked away for a bit, listened to some other books, and went back to it to see if it was just a mood, but I can't. I enjoy a reformed bad boy, but so far all I'm seeing is an alcoholic jerk. Technically I'm at the part just after detox and even sober, Tobias Langthorne is insufferable. Get ready to hear the name Tobias Langthorne (yes, his full name) a lot. Because it's in the book almost 600 times. Tobias mocks, teases, disrespects, and belittles Lina, not only in the prologue but currently as adults.

Lina is disturbingly obsessed with Toby. Not just in a "he's hot" kind of way (and no amount of hot makes up for his words/behavior), but also in saying she's been in love with him forever. At nearly 30, she still talks/thinks/acts like the 15yo at the beginning.

I see that the ratings increase significantly for the subsequent books, so I may try those to see if it's just this author's take on the trope I'm not connecting with.

Logan McAllister's narration was fine.

I received a free copy of this audiobook series and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Lena the liar

I found Lena's pretenses and facades overly affected. Anyone with a brain knows she's lusted for Toby from day one onward!! Her repetitive inner dialogues and droning on was laborious and distracting. At times she wss so ambiguous, that I could smack her hard!! She had a serious problem with honesty and what she needs and wants. Lena wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. She's oblivious to signs and symptoms she should know!! WTH? Lena was
a drama llama after Toby's proposal! Can she be more fake?? She acts like a tease and a horn dog,. with the emphasis on dog. What I'm saying is Lena was a liar, immature, obnoxious idiot that got worse with each page and word. Toby is the only salvation for the story. He apologized constantly and made daily acts of contrition, for what-a lying teasing skank. At least Toby told the truth!! The narrator did a great job. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this story and am giving an honest review.

Childhood Bully and Housekeeper's Daughter Inherit

Valley Fever is the first in The Langthornes of Napa Valley series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book. Narrated by Logan McAllister who has an easy on the ears voice and a broad range of character voices.

Tobias (Toby) Langthorne grew up as the privileged prince of a Napa Valley cabernet grape vineyard in high demand. He hates his father, respects nobody, and doesn't want anything to do with Langthorne Ranch. His good looks and wealth attract plenty of female attention and he hooks onto a popular girl who wants out of their small town too.

Catalina (Lina) Montez is the only child of the single mom housekeeper of Langthorne Ranch. She is very shy and has a young girl crush on handsome Tobias. Tobias torments her constantly as they grow up. She becomes a teacher and moved away as an adult. Her mother has died but she has working friends on the vineyard still.

A decade later, Toby is divorced and his father passed away. To everyone's surprise he left half the estate to Toby and half to Lina. Toby wants to sell and move on. Lina wants to preserve her fond memories of her childhood home. They still have animosity toward each other and sexual chemistry. Lina discovers for the first time that her mother and Toby's father had a long term love affair. Toby blames it for his mother's misery and eventual death. They agree to keep the vineyard through one harvest and re-evaluate. A lot happens over the summer and fall. Can they find a compromise about the land? Can they resist their pull toward each other? Can they overcome other obstacles that come along?

I did find Lina's lifelong inner dialogue of "Tobias Langthorne this" and "Tobias Langthorne that" more than a bit annoying after a while. It was several times in every chapter.

Dreams can come true!

I love Tessa Bowen's books. However, this may be a personal hangup of mine but the the constant repetition of "Tobias Langthorne" was extremely annoying to me and I almost stop listening to the book. I did keep listening and I really enjoyed the rest of this story. The author shows that dreams can come true but there may be many roadblocks along the way. We also see the characters growing and maturing. The narrator does an excellent job of portraying these characters emotions and feelings. His voice is so easy to listen to and enjoy. I asked to receive this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. I do recommend this Audible book.

I Want This Bad Boy!

I almost stopped reading this book. The male lead was so obnoxious to start off. A few chapters later, I was head over heels in love with Tobias! He is one gorgeous hunk of bad boy; the kind you know you shouldn't love but can't help loving anyway. I love the way Lena talks to herself about Toby! So enlightening. This is a fantastic book with a happy ending!

Dreams do come true

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. The author did a great job controlling the listener/reader's opinion when it comes to Tobias. Through most of the story, Tobias is a jerk. Then things change. Then you are on the side of Lina until toward the end when she goes a little crazy. But, based on what she has been through, you can understand her position. This story takes you from a young Tobias and Lina to adulthood and the trials they go through, over time, in their relationship. The narrator did a great job with the characters, their personalities and the overall story.

I Royally Enjoyed Valley Fever❤❤🐶🐶

This was the best audiobook I've listen to over the last two weeks. Tessa Bowen is a very visual author. I was able to see everything she described in this novel. The long dirt road, all the bunches of grapes hanging, the big red barn, all the workers moving around the farm, the white cottage that she and her Momma lived in and of course the main house. Her storyline was very explicit and I was able to close my eyes and wish my way into to everything. The two main characters Toby and Lena you could tell that there was a love that extended from childhood into adulthood throughout the storyline and they both not just one have been fighting that love from that that time up to now. Toby for it but he knew deep down inside that he love Lena from way back and then Lena knowing that she had loved him from way back started to fight and try to get him out of her heart when she do that she wasn't able to. I think Jonathan was the only one who was able to see the truth show their love. even though he saw the gas wanting to stay at the home he knew deep down inside that he wanted that house and he knew that he wanted it to stay there with Lena but he was just as scared as she was he was scared to step out on love because he had never really loved a woman like he had loved her.

I have to comment on my narrator Logan McAllister she was AWESOME all in capital letters he did a terrific job both side of the fence he did a great Toby and even a greater job as Lena, I am not kidding you. He also did an AMAZING job with the other characters adding an great cast. Some made have asked how will he handle both major characters and the extra well, he just did it!!! And, a great job, I am so proud of him he deserves every Accolade that he has coming to him for his role as both the major characters hi I have to give it to him so I definitely recommend this book to fellow listeners and I have to admit that I had gone back and listen to several parts of the book again so I've stretched it out even longer because I was enjoying it very much so I probably would have grown tired of it if it was a boring novel but there was nothing boring about this book and I know I will pick it up and listen to it again. I wish I could give Tessa more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s for it because she deserves it and Logan I wish I could give you more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s because you well endow deserve more. Thank you for allowing me to share in your story.

Enjoyed the story

I enjoy not only the story but the characters in this book as well. I did have to give it an overall four stars only because it wasn't a fan of how the character would often repeat names over and over in the book not sure if it was just how it was translated to narration or that's how it was an actual book. Like like I said the storyline in plot I both enjoyed there was just that one thing I couldn't quite get over otherwise I would have really loved it and given it five stars. The narrator I didn't personally have a problem with I did enjoy his voice and felt like he did a good job with the story. I I just feel like I might have liked this book better in the print form I feel like maybe something got lost and translation but again I did like the storyline and plot.

Sweet & Romantic

I enjoyed listening to Valley Fever, the first book in the Langthornes of Napa Valleys series. It takes a special kind of author to pen a true-to-life romance. Immediately, I connected with Lina and Tobias; they were real, complicated, and had their issues. Their connection was substantial and tension steadily grew. I was wholly impressed with Tessa Bowen's writing; the story was well-plotted with interesting characters.

Logan McAllister isn't my favourite narrator. However, I think he did a great job with Valley Fever, particularly with the different tones used for the various characters.

Hot fun in the sun.

Valley Fever brings us a hot, second chance romance which is well narrated by Logan McAllister. It was hard at times to warm to Tobias whose brash attitudes were usually just there beneath the surface, but Lena's conviction that there was more to him than a smart mouthed bully, helped bring out his more redeeming qualities. I am sure you would not be bored with him around! Lena is sweet and loyal, though her insecurities don't always do her justice. I enjoyed this audio and will look out for more from both the author and narrator.

Enjoyable Listen

I quite enjoyed Valley Fever. This is the first book I have listened to or read by this author but I would definitely pick up another one. I enjoyed watching the two main characters navigate their relationship throughout the story. I thought they were perfect for each other. I thought there was just enough drama...though the back and forth between them was a little annoying but only because you know they belong together and want them to hurry up and get past it all. I liked the narrator as well very easy to and pleasant to listen to. I would recommend this book to others.

Enticing

Book 1 in the series. This story kept my attention the entire time. My heart went out to Lina and I wanted to punch Tobias in the throat most of the time. When you think the story is coming to an end there are still hours left. Logan was an awesome narrator for this book because he can pull off the character of Tobias perfectly (he is a manly man). I was able to have a clear picture in my head of what was happening because of his awesome narration. I recommend this whole series.

Tobias Langthorne

This is the story of Tobias and Lina from their young lives through adulthood. Lina loved Toby but he was always mean to her but through it all she still loved him. He finally comes around and sees Lina for who she is as well as the beautiful Langthornes.

Logan McAllister did a good job narrating this story.

I received a code to listen and review and give my honest opinion. It's a 3 star for me. The story is a little long and Lina's love of repeating Tobias Langthorne throughout is a little childish but they get their HEA in the end.
