Publisher's Summary

The Expanse meets The Godfather in this space opera/sci-fi noir thriller about corporate greed, rebellion, and mankind’s survival among the stars.

Revolution threatens a longstanding peace....

Thirty years after the Syndicate Corporation saved Earth from climate-change extinction, SynCorp’s Five Factions rule the solar system with an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove. Food, entertainment, safety, security - SynCorp provides it all. In return, the Company requires complete loyalty and obedience to corporate law.

The Soldiers of the Solar Revolution claim life under SynCorp is slavery cloaked in comfort. They launch their rebellion, targeting the pillars of corporate production: Sabotaging refineries on Mars, shattering Callisto’s orbital ring. Meanwhile, brutal pirates siphon off Company resources in the Belt, and hackers tap into citizens’ implants, addicting them to fantasies shaped from their own dreams.

Besieged on all sides, SynCorp’s Five Factions are in retreat. The rebels aim to destroy the Company to free mankind. But does mankind really want to be freed?

Stacks Fisher does it again

I picked this book up because I listened to Optional Retirement Plan and heard that the main character from that book is in this one. I think I actually like Pinchot’s version of Stacks better than Bray’s. I know... sue me. The rest of the book is wonderful too and I can’t wait for the second installment.

Stacks is back? or is he

if you liked Optional Retirement Plan the main character is back in a pre-sequel with a greatly expanded cast and multiple viewpoint characters.
the expanding world of the five factions is a great bit of world-building and I am looking forward to the next one
even though the narrator has been changed in this book Bronson Pinchot delivers a good performance that contributes to the story
In the end highly recomended

Excellent SciFi Adventure, I need book 2 now!

Valhalla Station is an entertaining SciFi adventure with enough intrigue to keep me listening almost non-stop. The authors created an interesting and fleshed out universe, where corporate CEOs basically control entire planets. The cast of characters is great as well, with plenty of flawed heroes, antiheroes, and just straight-up bad guys. The narration in this book is amazing. The narrator does a great job with all of the accents, and even he even does women’s voices well. I especially liked the voice he gave to Stacks Fischer. Overall, this was an excellent listen and I can’t wait for book two.

Exciting

Enjoyed the story although it could be hard to follow at times because of the many characters involved and the reader had to remember who was who.

Valhalla Station keeps you wanting more

The characters are believable and interesting. The story flows and is hard to stop listening to. There are more twists and turns than a bag of pretzels. I can’t wait for the next book. Read the book or listen to the audiobook version. You won’t be disappointed!!!

An incredible start!

Valhalla Station is a great start to a fascinating new series. The story from multiple characters comes together at the end nicely. Action, heartbreak, and real characters that act like real people in extraordinary situations. And Stacks Fischer is the best! An antihero you hate to love but do anyway.

Pretty Good Book

I really listened to this because I enjoy Bronson Pinchot's narration in other books.

The story starts off a little slow but picks up and brings all the various plot lines together nicely.

An interesting solar system

There are a lot of characters, most of who own planets, which is an interesting concept. I liked the narration too.

I was given this audiobook for free and have voluntarily left this review.

Boring

The story just didn’t grip me and the characters were quite frankly uninteresting. I kept waiting for something dramatic to happen, but this story seemed more soap opera then space opera. Shame. The narrator did a good job and the audiobook is well produced, but to call this a Technothriller is a real stretch.

Opens with a bang!

Good story - it opens with a bang; quite literally, the first thing that happens is an explosion. Plot and counter-plot, good guys and bad guys (and you're never totally sure who is which) and long enough to be a good read whilst not being so long that it's overcooked. I enjoyed it and I have Book 2 in my library to read later.

An excellent start to a series

Loved it, looking forward to the rest, enough action to keep it moving with suspense and character development to keep the interest and keep the story line moving.

Never let truth get in the way of justice.

An exceptionally good first book in the new SynCorp Saga which promises to become even better. Told from various perspectives including one in the first person - that of Stacks Fisher, previously met in the superb Optional Retirement P!an -the reader is introduced to the unexpected breaking of the Syncorps supremacy, and the five leaders who, between them, ruled the solar wor!ds. Great story telling, well written, with cafefu!my characterized protagonists, the book also has a fine narrator in Branson Pinchet. His pleasant sounding voice is well modulated, adapts freely to give individual and distinctive voicing to the numerous characters and is constantly drawing in the reader for more. His is an excellent melding of voice and text, well perfkrmed.
The
This is one of those few books for which I would like to award a bonus star for excellence and I personally am awaiting the next in the series with great anticipation.
Recommended most highly to all who enjoy S.F. and space adventure.

Took a while to get going

This one was a bit of a mixed bag, probably due to the nature of its dual authorship, making it hard to get into at first.

It switches back and forth between "the little people" at the bottom of the pile, with a lot of character to each character, and boardroom chatter between the people at the top of the pile, which is very flat, somewhat clichéd, and cold to begin with. It made it hard to get into the story, with a lot of corporate intrigue at the start, but it does eventually warm up once they get into more personal interactions as the story develops, alongside the stories of the victims of this society.

I will probably complete the series at some point in the future, though I do have an extensive backlog of "unread" audiobooks to get through!

Slow boiler

It took me a little while to get into this book, the first hour was a little too slow for me with scene setting etc. But once I got past that it turned out to be a good book.

A gritty noir sci-fi

I recieved a review copy of this book. The world depicted is gritty in its realism. The characters are interesting and story gripping. A very good and interesting book with a well chosen narrator.

One note is that there is an editing issue in one of the early chapters, but the issue is minor and doesn't take away from the story.
