Graf Holk und seine Gemahlin Christine leben mit ihren zwei Kindern auf einem Schloss in der Nähe von Flensburg. Neben seinem Landwirtschaftsbetrieb ist er Kammerherr am dänischen Hof, wo er nur wenige Tage des Jahres verbringt. Eines Tages wird Holk für mehrere Monate nach Kopenhagen zur dänischen Prinzessin abkommandiert. Dort begegnet er mehreren Frauen, die ihn faszinieren. Insbesondere die Gesellschafterin der Prinzessin, Ebba von Rosenberg, hat es ihm angetan. Er beginnt eine Affäre mit ihr und verlässt seine Frau. Die Liaison zu Ebba endet schnell und er ist sehr verletzt. Um nicht das Gespött der Kopenhagener Gesellschaft zu werden, begibt er sich auf Reisen. Schließlich strebt er mit Unterstützung des Ortsgeistlichen und eines Erziehers die Versöhnung mit Christine an. Trotz einer zweiten Hochzeit leidet die Beziehung unter dem Vorgefallenen und Christine nimmt sich das Leben. Regie: Peterpaul Schulz
