Publisher's Summary

The church becomes more divided each day.

Many seek reassurance or perceived unity by creating doctrinal statements, but that misses the point. Doctrine is necessary, but it is not the solution.

In his new book Until Unity, New York Times best-selling author Francis Chan tells listeners that the real problem is shallow or even nonexistent love for each other. Do we truly understand the gospel? Do we believe in the miracle of the Holy Spirit in us? As believers, Christians are supposed to yield the fruit of supernatural love for one another. Instead, we allow jealousy and selfish ambition to prevail.

God hates this division between his children - and our indifference to it. He has provided the solution to the church through gifting of leaders to equip his people in a way that leads to “unity of the faith” - but not at the expense of truth or holiness. Believers have done a poor job at this, but we can hear the call and be “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).

Although the Bible commands unity, some will resist these unifying efforts. We see it every day. We have to hate sin, love truth, and pursue unity for the church. This is messy, but no matter what, Christians must give everything they have to the pursuit of a unified, restored Bride.

Worth the listen/read.

Still chewing on it. Still praying on it. Very intense information that spoke to exactly my current struggles. Im overwhelmed by conviction and thankful for the bravery of the author to take a hard stand on a topic that will undoubtedly bring forth criticism. I have so much love for Chan. This book is, in my opinion, unapologetically different than his previous books. It’s bolder and written with so much transparency. I love that he used so much scripture. There are portions I’m pouring over a few more times.

Powerful and Truly Challenging

Such a powerful and challenging word. This is not a simple call to action and unity but rather a genuine call to repentance to God and reconciliation amongst believers.

We all know Francis has a very unique speaking ability. This audiobook felt more like a proper 5 hour speech than a book!

The Church as One

A lot of people are not happy with Francis and this book as they feel he is sacrificing truth for unity. They obviously haven’t read the book with an open mind. Francis is striving for unity with true believers, not minimizing key doctrinal issues, but rather not causing quarrels based on non-salvific and secondary issues. Great heart check for me as I have slandered my brothers and sisters in Christ for not aligning exactly with my understanding of certain things. This book has driven me to repentance and opened my eyes to what God desires for his church and I pray it does the same for you.

There should only be one Church !

A passionate call for unity from the likeable Francis Chan.

In the beginning there was one church, a thousand years later it divided into East and West. 500 years later The West divided into Catholic and Protestant and since then the Protestant Church has divided every 5 minutes (not literally!).

I've discovered the beauty of the Eastern Church via Audible books by Frederica Mathewes-Green among others and long for a return to the days before 1054 when there was one official church. In those times doctrinal disputes were dealt with by councils such as Nicaea, Chalcedon and Constantinople.

I'm with Francis on this and as he says it's a major issue...we've just got used to division and have stopped believing unity is possible. Definately recommend this book.
