Publisher's Summary

You live in your dream house, but there's no mortgage. No alarm clock, no boss, no bills. No claims on the day's time other than what you choose. It is making more money before breakfast than you made for an entire week at your last job. It is a crazy expensive car parked in your garage, a victorious symbol that your dreams no longer sleep in fantasies, but are awake with reality.

Make no mistake, this life exists. I know, because it has been mine for nearly 20 years. And in a few short years, it can be yours as well. Better, you won't need 5 tedious decades of thankless jobs, buzz killing frugality, and patient investing with our trusted friends on Wall Street.

Unfortunately, you have been scripted to believe that such a life is out of your reach, or only possible for a certain type of person. Someone with a certain college degree, a certain amount of VC funding, or a certain contact list of connected friends from Stanford. I am here to tell you, that none of it is true.

While I have been entrepreneur most of my life, I am no one special. You won't read about me over at Tech Crunch or in some Silicon Valley newsletter. While I have been an internet entrepreneur since the old "you've got mail" AOL days, I have never been funded by venture capitalists, I have never had a payroll with more than 5 people on it, and I have never studied computer science at school.

Despite this, I am able to create profitable businesses that create the type of unscripted life described above. We are talking five- and six-figure monthly profits with valuations in the millions. Although I have had two successful exits, do not

Fantastic book although a bit lengthy

It's a long book and the first part is a bit of rant. In fact, it was a bit on the negative side. It however does turn around and back on track with some fantastic advice. I think I prefer fast lane millionaire better but I would still recommend this to anyone as it is a very good book with in-depth explanations of key concepts.

Nothing new

If you've read the Millionaire Fastlane you can literally skip the first half of this book. It's just a giant rant with nothing new.

I loved Fastlane so I picked this up, but it really rehashes everything that was in the previous book. It also doesn't have the same impact when it's not narrated by MJ.

Was hoping to learn something new, but unfortunately didn't deliver for me.

Definitely one of the best entrepreneur books

I've read a ton of entrepreneur books but MJ's are definitely in my top few. His contrarian views are as refreshing as his obnoxious honesty, reminding us that if we think like the average person we get average results. Even as a moderately successful entrepreneur it's been a welcome kick up the backside. I never take the time to review audible books, but wanted to highly recommend this one.

Outstanding

If you could sum up Unscripted in three words, what would they be?

Eye-opening, educational, in-depth,

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mj De Marco, Because I find he is not afraid to speak the truth and tell you how it is.

What does Scott Thomas bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His voice is soothing and I can listen to him all day. I'm not the reading type so I haven't experienced the book any other way.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part where MJ explains investing with your paycheck pot. He states that it is boring but I enjoy it, I have had the goal of being wealthy from a young age my family where bankers so I love numbers.

Any additional comments?

I'd like to thank MJ De Marco for this in-depth book on money and I will continue to advise everyone I meet to read it. It has given me a deep understanding of how I'm going to get out of the rat race and onto the fast lane. At the same time, it has made me aware of the traps and scams out there so I can stay away from them.

Making money, yeah. Cut the rant though.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Absolutely. I love the author's "let's get it done" philosophy, but later on in the book it just feels like a rant. He even starts backlashing about fat-shaming.
Honestly, I just want to learn about entrepreneurship. I don't need a social commentary (complete with excessive cussing).

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Despite my previous comments about the book turning into a social commentary, it's well worth the purchase.
I wouldn't call this a story, but the information offered in three quarters of this title makes it worth while.
Like I said, however, it later turns into a social commentary (yawn).

Have you listened to any of Scott Thomas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but this voice actor is amazing. He kept me up late at night with his enthusasm -- despite the title being extremely long.

Who do you think would benefit most from listening to Unscripted?

Anyone looking to get ahead in life, or planning on opening (or wanting to improve on) their business.

Any additional comments?

Overall, the book is worth the purchase. It is well written, and narrated fantastically.

I just want to turn it off when I start to hear the rant about people the author doesn't believe are putting enough into life. Frankly, he sounds like a bit of a bully near the end; but that won't stop me from taking good info and using it to my advantage.

A wake up call for those wanting more out of life

MJ has done it again.
Unscripted is a prequel to The Millionaire Fastlane, in my opinion, although both books stand alone.
The book covers all the underlying things required to get the right mindset and create valuable businesses that serve and add value to the world, while allowing you to become wealthy and be untethered from a J.O.B.
Read/listen to it multiple times to allow the message to sink in.

More of the good stuff

At first I missed M.J's voice. Then I understood, the new narrator is brilliant and the audio quality is top notch. No more cheesy 90s rock music from first book but I'll survive.

First part of this book is very similar to the first book. But patience lead to the good stuff!

I will make this short. Read this book as well as Millionaire Fastlane or be a dummy stuck in the dark running around in your hamster wheel... forever

I believe in Reality and this man knows Reality!

What did you love best about Unscripted?

No non sense, No BS, in your face Unscripted Reality! I do believe MJ DeMarco should do stand up comedy. I say this in a good way, because what MJ converses is what our current society is scripting for us all. I am in a scripted life, but there is a way out. If you are willing to fight for it! Thanks: MJ

What other book might you compare Unscripted to and why?

Millionaire Fast Lane : Same author. More of the same great knowledge for a producers lifestyle.

Have you listened to any of Scott Thomas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I personally liked MJ DeMarco narration from the original book. I will say Scott Thomas's vocals did not dissuade the listening. He did a great job of conveying the message or information in a regal and hilarious manner.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is to many to note. I will be re-listening to write them all down. Impact millions, Action Taker vs Faker, producer vs consumer, plus many more.

Any additional comments?

I don't believe in being a zealot about anyone idea or thing. That said, MJ comes across in a realistic truthful way. It is packed full of knowledge, history and humor. I would say he is doing better than me and allot of other people out there. This in it's self makes it worth a listen.

A dense listen with some nuggets

I have a friend who loves this book and has read it three times. It took me a few weeks to get through it once on Audible. There's some good stuff in there, but I bet the book could be edited to half it's size without losing anything.

Must Listen!!!

I really enjoyed The Millionaire Fastlane, and this book is a great follow up to that masterpiece. There is a fair bit of strong language, but if you can look past that it is well worth the listen. Candid, honest to a fault, and just telling it like it is. I loved the dry sarcastic overtones, they serve to emphasize how ridiculous modern economic slavery really is. Narration was well done, very professional and easy to listen to, so I'm pleased with the overall experience.

Excellent writing, motivation, and information.

This author has changed my life for the better. It is authors like this that let you see behind the scenes of the truth. Unlike other authors, he teaches you how to move behind the scenes.

The education of this guy's books impart upon the reader, it's far more advanced than your average book on getting rich. They reach the very core of a wealthy life existence and should not be taken lightly.

If there was ever a way that I could ever help out an author such as this, I would definitely do so.

Thank you for opening the door to a better life existence!!

The difficult second album

I read millionaire fast lane a few years ago and still think it's one of the best business books ever written. Of the many, many books I've read in this genre it's one of the only ones I always go back to and I have actually used some of the principles to enjoy success with my own business.

I was really looking forward to reading this, and wish I could give it more than 3 stars. Mj comes across as a very genuine author, and although there are some great sections of this book it does, at times, come across a bitter rant against the system, or 'the script'. Most of what MJ says is likely very true, but I feel the book would be a lot more enjoyable if it had been edited down. The last couple of chapters were particularly slow.

I also preferred MJ's narration on the first audio book to this one, but that is a minor point!

Having said that, it's still a great read and if you haven't read fast lane it will open your eyes to a new way of thinking. I think MJ is a victim of his own success as the first book was so good, so definetely read that too!
