About this listen

To their followers, influencer couple Jess and Nick Brooks are beyond aspirational—they’re proof that you can have it all. They can dance and cook and surf, and somehow, they’re still madly in love despite juggling two young boys, Oliver and Archie. When a brand deal lands the family a free trip to an idyllic Balinese luxury resort, their dream holiday becomes a nightmare when Archie goes missing from the Kids Club.

As the hunt for Archie begins, the loving and wholesome family that the Brooks present to their millions of followers starts to unravel. Who is behind this disappearance? Is it Elta, the overworked local nanny at the Kids Club? Is it the mysterious girl who's befriended Oliver beside the pool? Or is this the work of the sinister online troll in Jess's DMs? And what happens when the Brooks' virtual selves fracture completely from their real-world personas?

White Lotus meets The Beach in this thrilling new mystery from the authors of Still House and The Call.

I really enjoyed this title. The narration was spot on and the writing created a rich description of the setting. Having never been to Bali but know its place in so many Australian’s life I thought it was a great setting for these over entitled influencers. Non of the characters were very likable and I found myself hoping that the boy never returned as he seemed like a psychopath in the making.

I’m not usually into stories about “influencers” but enjoyed this.

I had no idea about this book, just picked it off the Audible Plus catalogue. Found myself quite intrigued at the start as it seemed believable. Seemed a bit drawn out in parts but was shocked by the ending, wasn't expecting that. The grief of the parents was not believable as it was shallow. Or was it they were just terrible, terrible people? An original storyline though.

An unusual disturbing story

What an incredible story that tore my soul apart. Very well written and narrated. I think it was a necessary plot that needed to be aired. Look forward to listening to more from the author.

One of the better books I’ve found on the free list now that the added tariffs have stopped me purchasing. And extra $20au for 3 credits

Thought provoking

A novella, about a contemporary and ubiquitous subject, astutely observed, decent character development.
Good narrator.

Good contemporary novella
