Publisher's Summary

Seventeen-year-old Elizabeth Bennet always hoped to marry for love. That is, until she surrenders to her mother’s demands and marries the handsome Duke of Leeds.

Thrust into a society disinclined to accept the "country nobody" who entrapped one of their most sought-after bachelors, her marriage of convenience is nothing like she expected. Her husband confuses her, as he hides a scandalous secret he’s reluctant to share.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is a man torn. After meeting the Duchess of Leeds at a ball, he is fascinated by her intelligence and humor, but how does one maintain a respectable friendship with a lady - particularly when that lady is the wife of his cousin and godfather?

Yet, by spending time in her company, he loses more and more of his heart to a lady he is forbidden to possess. Tormented, his feelings must stay hidden from everyone, particularly Elizabeth.

How is he to keep himself under such strict regulation when he is constantly thrown into her company? How does one prevent their own undoing?

Note: contains scenes with adult content.

Loved This Completely New Story

Some people hate variations that differ so far from the original P&P story. I on the other hand love them. First off, I loved seeing a slightly younger Darcy interact with his father. Even though I knew George was going to die, it still hurt. Thankfully Elizabeth was there for Darcy. Elizabeth's first husband manipulates and deceives her so I was not sad at all when he died. Elizabeth and Darcy have an affair while she is married and conceive a child named Alexander. He is the sweetest baby. Elizabeth breastfeeding him was adorable and Darcy is a wonderful father. Jane and Bingley aren't a couple in this book but she does get a happy ending with Darcy's cousin. Not Colonel Fitzwilliam because he is a jerk in this variation. The narration by Stevie Zimmerman is amazing as always. Also the epilogue made me cry.

Painfully beautiful

Variations with Darcy or Elizabeth being married to someone else are not my favorite, but I love other books written by L.L Diamond and I the plot sounded intriguing. I really enjoyed this story, how Darcy and Elizabeth fell in love despise her being married to another man and against all their moral values. Without giving a spoiler their circumstances were unusual. The character of the Duke of Leeds was very well written and he was not a villain I had expected him to be. It made me wonder how many similar situations existed in titled families when an heir was produced in an unorthodox way. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more of them than we realize. Stevie Zimmerman’s narration was superb, she conveyed the yearning, the budding love and anguish perfectly. Every personality in the book was unique and alive thanks to her talent. Highly recommended.

Evocative

This is quite evocative. It is significantly slanted away from canon but it still very emotionally heavy. So much deceit, manipulation, jealousy, corruption but above all LOVE. Mind you at first I was not keen with the whole adulterous nature of the storyline and this right after both becoming incensed with the Duke with his plans for his wife and his cousin. I still don't like the fact that they had an adulterous affair and their immediate relatives were okay with it even they had been "tricked". They really didn't have to have their arms twisted very hard. They themselves resolved to be okay with the situation almost immediately. Regardless of all that, the love story itself was moving.

Heart wrenching

I was hesitant at first, because of the premise of an affair, but the character development and progression of the story is so well done, the characters still true to the original essence of Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. I have been on a kick of P&P variations and novellas. This is one of the best. All the characters are enjoyable. Warning there are some evocative love scenes incorporated and adult themes addressed. Stevie Zimmerman is superb of course!

Loved it.

What a story. So full and well written. The narrator was doing a great job adding more to the story. A love story. A HEA for ODC.

YOU MUAT READ THIS BOOK!

I think my heart might explode. Yes, it’s an entirely different story than Pride and Prejudice. You could change the characters names and make it, it’s own incredible love story, that I truly believe would hold its own but the fact that she made it about these characters we all know and love! It’s almost too much for one heart to take. This is without a doubt the most romantic book I have ever read. Read it and then read it again!

Great narration. Story Ok

I read/listen to a lot of romance novels. Variations of P&P can be good as any romance but having ODC as leads adds more to the story. The twists on the characters were good but it would have been nice to have a more intriguing plot for Darcy and Elizabeth. I wish the writer would have been more imaginative on the affair between the two.

It had possibilities

This was a very different story that started off well. The second half was kind of disappointment for me.I found myself wishing the story would end. I did find the epilogue very touching. The narrator was fantastic!

Undone

The only reason why I read this is because the wonderful Stevie Zimmerman was the narrator. Otherwise if I had known more about the plot I wouldn't have wasted a credit. L.L. Diamond has the unpleasant habit of twisting Jane Austen's immortal characters until they are unrecognizable. Can anyone imagine Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet pursuing an illict affair? Her husband was a cruel and unfeeling. Colonel Fitzwilliam a drunken wastrel? The ending was so sad.
