About this listen

This Is Going to Hurt was the publishing phenomenon of the century, read by many millions, loved by at least fifty of them, and adapted into a major TV series. But it was only part of the story.

By turns hilarious, heartbreaking and humbling, Undoctored is about what happens when a doctor hangs up his scrubs, but medicine refuses to let go of him.

It's about an extraordinary medical school education.

It's about opening old wounds and examining the present-day scars.

It's about hospital admissions and personal ones.

It's about blowing up your life and stitching it back together.

It's about being a doctor and being a patient.

It's about 300 pages long.

Undoctored is Adam Kay's funniest and most moving book yet—an astonishing portrait of a life in and out of medicine, from one of Britain's finest storytellers.

This unabridged audio download, narrated by the author, features extra diary entries recorded in audio for the first time, and an audiobook exclusive interview with bestselling author and broadcaster The Reverend Richard Coles.

After thoroughly enjoying the eye-opening experience of, 'This Is Going to Hurt,' I was intrigued to hear the continuation of Adam's story. I was astounded not only by Adam's further revelations such as his own health struggles, and personal relationships, but by his excellent ability to weave, 'Undoctored,' along it's non-linear storyline, linking présent day stories, flashbacks, and further journal entries and anecdotes. It was a joy to listen to, and Adam's pace and especially-honed gift for storytelling made the chapters fly by.

Adam Kay is a brilliant story teller. He so brilliantly manages to flick between comedy & tragedy in a way that just draws you in entirely. Such important messages to read & hear.

Hilarious & Heart breaking

Definitely not what I was expecting, but a very good read nonetheless. I listened to this one before getting "this is going to hurt" and am now going to listen to that one

not bad

This book, read by the author, is harrowing in parts and humorous in others. It’s a very interesting insight into two professions (medical and writing) and the particular life of one individual.

My only issue with this book is that I’d prefer it was longer. Very funny and just as great as the last one.

Very funny

Hilarious and heartbreaking all at once. I loved listening on my morning commute each day.

Having seen the tv series I found this even more brutally honest, also incredibly brave of Adam. Unbelievable facts supporting his own experiences and an obvious passion for wanting the nhs and medical schools to better support to their doctors. I laughed and cried. Working in a NZ hospital I was very sorry to find out that his short encounter with NZ was far from sweet. I’m so sorry that happened to you here.

Laughed aloud, cried inside. A powerfully honest mix.

Thank you Adam. I wish I could articulate how much I connected with your words and the truths you shared, but I'm overwhelmed, overtired and emotional. Since I felt the hollowness and despair when listening to you going through the NZ trip alone, I have been in tears, wishing you had support and a hug. I continued crying (which is rare), perhaps for myself and those around me (and those I've known who are no longer here), when you repeatedly described so succinctly the futility of any attempt to thrive emotionally in this godforsaken (sorry, hallowed?) profession. What a miserable review, but this book hit home and I loved it. Thank you again, Dr E.

No words. I'm in tears.
