Des cadavres sont découverts en montagne : un homme, une femme puis une jeune fille. Paul Mourier, de la police criminelle grenobloise, est mis sur l'enquête. Amnésique et handicapé suite à un incendie qui s'est déclaré chez lui quatre mois auparavant, il est aussi un peu alcoolique.
