Til Halloween i 2017 beskrev en kryptisk artikel i en japansk avis, at politiet havde anholdt en mistænkt, efter de havde fundet ni lig i hans lejlighed uden for Tokyo. Den anholdte var en ung mand med et umiddelbart normalt liv, og ingen af naboerne havde haft fantasi til at forestille sig, at den mærkelige lugt fra mandens lejlighed stammede fra menneskelige rester.
