Story
Where there's sport, there's cheating. No sport is immune: athletics, swimming, rugby, American football, cricket, baseball, badminton, motorsports, tennis and curling. Yes, even that sport on the ice with brooms. Almost as soon as humans started playing sport competitively, they started to cheat. They cheated to win, for the fame, for the money and sometimes for reasons that are hard to understand.

Story
In Sport, the term 'good bloke' doesn't mean what it says. Like 'fun run', it in fact often means the exact opposite. Titus O'Reily, the sports historian Australia neither needs nor deserves, examines why our nation's sportspeople can do terrible things yet be so readily forgiven. In this Great Southern Land, a sportsman can be excused almost any sin if he is elevated to the mythical status of being a 'good bloke'. So, what does it take to earn the title of 'good bloke'? And can female athletes be good blokes, too?

Where do comedians come from? Why is it that one person is a funny bloke down the pub while another actually makes a living by standing up in front of an audience telling jokes? And where does all that material come from? Well, young Lee McKillop used to wonder that too. Growing up in his parents’ pub, small and wiry in a world of bigger and chunkier specimens, Lee quickly learned that cracking jokes was a way to get attention.

Publisher's Summary
Cricket fans, where were you during the disaster that was the 2013 Ashes? Adam Zwar was making a documentary about bodyline and filming a stunt that involved Brett Lee bowling bouncers to him while he wasn't wearing a helmet. Matthew Hayden warned him not do it. But the cameras were set up. What was he going to do - say no?
How about when Australia A nearly upset Australia in the 1995 World Series Cup and the players were rebelling against officials? Adam was working as a driver for an escort agency in Melbourne.
Or Australia v. India in 2001? That was when Adam was stuck in a hotel with AC/DC.
For all the significant moments in Adam's life, cricket was in the background - or foreground. And you don't need to be a fan of cricket to be able to relate, because we all remember where we were when something important happened, whether that's a cricket test, an album release or a TV show ending. Twelve Summers is hilarious, moving and thought-provoking. Even if you aren't a fan of cricket, you'll find a lot to love listening to this audiobook.

Strong recommend for any sports fan.
Really enjoyed this audible experience. Excellent voice over and great story telling. Nothing better than to experience a great cricket book over the Australian summer and this book perfectly fit the bill. I got some big laugs out of it and the nostalgia aspect was also a strong point.

A True Cricket Tragic
Love the marriage of personal anecdotes and the unfolding fortunes of the Australian cricket team. Easily digestible, I finished it inside 24 hours. Excellent narration from the author. It should be good, he's a voice actor afterall.

You don't have to love cricket
Brilliant read, or listen, and you don’t have to love cricket!
I bought the audio book for driving but I ended up finishing this walking around the house with my phone tucked in my pants and finally on the bedside table when I went to bed.
I enjoy Adam’s work in all his different mediums, but I’m not a cricket fan as such.
None the less there were many laugh out loud lines from the book stemming from both the tales of Australian cricket and Adam’s life as an underdog.
I thought perhaps after the chapters of shared boarding house experiences, I may lose momentum, but instead finished the book within a day and half.
Going to my first ever Ashes game soon I feel I’ve had the perfect speed course on the recent history of Australian Cricket, told by one of Australia’s most talented and amusing storytellers.
Adam is clearly a Cricket nut of the highest order, however he has made this book relevant and enjoyable to a wide audience.

Twelve Summers- Marvellous
I have been a fan of Adam Zwar’s body of work, am the same age and a massive cricket fan so this book was highly anticipated and I am pleased to report…it didn’t disappoint. Zwar is a wonderful story teller and this is an entertaining account of his life- struggles/victories; love and losses recalled alongside the fortunes of the Aussie Cricket team from the time of his boyhood into adult life. Zwar is a renowned voiceover artist and as you’d expect the narrating of his (and the Aussie Cricket teams) wins, loses, good times and bad ensures that Audiobook is the perfect way to take in this story. His stories are funny, honest and sometimes heartbreaking, but always entertaining. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Twelve Summers
I don’t know a lot of the technicalities and stats of cricket I just know I enjoy the game
It feels like summer when cricket is all over the media
What I loved about this book and hadn’t expected was the nostalgia it evoked. Hearing all those names from my younger years just brought back such a rush of memories.
Intertwined with Adam’s childhood and stories of tough times at school and work made for a truly satisfying listen
I’m a big fan of Adam’s podcast and really enjoy his voice so to hear him tell his own story in his own words was a joy
Great concept
I’m off to watch Bodyline now
