Det er December 1979, og Thomas vender tilbage til Københavns Vestegn efter et år i London, hvor han har spillet plastic-orgel i et new wave-band. Inden laenge møder han sin gamle gymnasiekam-merat Henrik, og de beslutter sig for at lave et band, der skal bringe den på én gang nye og nostalgiske musik til Danmark. Samtidig bliver Thomas kaereste med Mia, og han begynder på en videregående uddannelse. Men Thomas føler sig desperat i et Danmark, som han mener sid-der uhjaelpeligt fast i hippie-tiden. Tingene går i kludder, bandet drukner i dårlige jobs og andre former for nedture, og midt i det hele får han faerten af en tragisk familiehemmelighed, der hidtil har vaeret holdt skjult for ham.
