Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. Story
We all have a soundtrack to our lives, songs that as soon as we hear them we're transported to a moment in time. As the youngest child, and only girl, in a family of creative types, Myf Warhurst grew up with the music in her. Whether she was watching Daryl Braithwaite on TV on a Sunday night or listening to the crackle of the needle across vinyl as Agnetha and Anni-Frid took her from rural Victoria to Eurovision, music has always shaped Myf's life. Later her love of music (and the realisation that a professional pianist gig wasn't part of the plan) would shape her career.

People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of 60, with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and California, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f--king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time. A lot of it ain't gonna be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. But I ain't the devil.

It’s 2006, and terror scaremongering in the media has rattled the residents of sleepy, suburban Dunlop Crescent. When a Maori family moves into number 14, the local cranks assume they are Middle Eastern terrorists hell-bent on destroying the Australian way of life. Rumour has it that they plan to turn their house to face Mecca. This sets off an extraordinary chain of events that embroils the entire neighbourhood as well as cynical media figures, bumbling antiterrorist police and a gang of white supremacists with a radical plan to wake up the country and ‘preserve Australian values’.

Brilliant, brutal, entertaining as hell
- By Amazon Customer on 18-04-2017
Publisher's Summary
On screen, Danny Trejo is the most recognisable anti-hero in Hollywood - killed at least a hundred times, he steals every scene he's in. But off screen, he is so much more. The ultimate hard-knock-lifer, and a true man of the world, he has all the stories, and all the scars.
Raised in an abusive home, Danny struggled from an early age with heroin addiction and doing time in some of the country's most notorious state prisons, including Folsom and San Quentin - where he met Charles Manson - before starring in modern classics and cult hits alike, such as Heat, Breaking Bad, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sons of Anarchy, Desperado, Machete and scores more. Now, Danny takes us through the peaks and valleys of his life, including meeting one of the world's most infamous serial killers and working with icons like Charles Bronson and Robert De Niro.
In raw detail, Danny recounts how he managed the horrors of incarceration, rebuilt his life, and drew inspiration from the adrenaline-fueled robbing heists of his past for the film roles that forged his legend.
Redemptive, poignant, and raw, Trejo is a portrait of a magnificent life and an unforgettable journey through tragedy, pain, and, finally, success. Told with cowboy appeal, gritty rebel wisdom, and total honesty, these are outlaw stories from the frontiers: the frontiers of prison, of Hollywood, and of life.
Includes an exclusive bonus track with Donal Logue sharing his favourite stories about his friendship with Danny and writing the book together.

A life of total humility- inspirational
If you like the Danny Trejo you see in films this memoir will 10X that. This unsanitised account of Danny’s life will leave you wanting more of him whilst at the same time asking yourself what more you can do to serve your fellow man. Clearly a man of no-ego that lives to serve a higher power you will love this audiobook. A humble account of a bad guy turned good.

Trejo is a bad ass
I loved this book. The only issue was that Mr Trejo is a little hard to listen to with his stilted reading. Besides that, this tale is exactly as grimy and no holds barred as I assumed. Honest and gritty.

A truly great read.
My love for reading came late in life. I put that down to not having access to books like this. Books that are real, that tell real life stories of overcoming adversity, that show that real people are capable of accomplishing things beyond what they can dream. That represent people who are usually drawn in negative light being super heroes. That shows the plight, humanity and triumph of societies outcasts. I love the strong messages of sobriety and the true uglyness of drug and alcohol abuse this book shows on top of many other social issues.
