Hermann Hesses Betrachtung "Traumgeschenk", eine 1946 entstandene Bilanz seiner jahrzehntelangen Beschäftigung mit den "nächtlichen Spielen" des Träumens wird hier erstmals als Tondokument, vom Dichter selbst gelesen, veröffentlicht. Der Traum war für Hesse eine Art Lichtspalt "durch das du den Inhalt deiner Seele siehst, und dieser Inhalt ist die ganze Welt, von deiner Geburt bis heute [...], von Japan bis Gibraltar, vom Sirius bis zur Erde, vom Rotkäppchen bis Bergson".
Erstmals in Hesses eigener Lesung zu hören ist auch sein Hymnus "Dank ans Tessin" sowie die Gedichte "Alter Maler" in der Werkstatt und das zeitkritische Lied von "Abels Tod".
Siemen Rühaak liest "Der Holländer", ein Kapitel aus Hermann Hesses autobiographischer Erzählung "Kurgast", einem aufschlussreichen Text über das Welt- und Menschenbild Hesses sowie über die Psychologie des Künstlers.
