Publisher's Summary

Douglas uncovers the underlying reasons for lack of consistency and helps traders overcome the ingrained mental habits that cost them money. He takes on the myths of the market and exposes them one by one teaching traders to look beyond random outcomes, to understand the true realities of risk, and to be comfortable with the "probabilities" of market movement that governs all market speculation.

A great tool I'll refer to often

The best narrator I've heard so far, and the content is a game changer. This is too good to listen to just once.

A MUST read for anyone passionate about trading!

A key aspect of this book is to view trading as a game of probabilities and to understand that any set of trading rules must be given enough of a sample size to clearly know if your system gives you an "edge".
Too often we try to justify why one trade turned into a loss with the belief that if your system is incredible you should never be wrong.
If you knew that your system is right 70% of the time, this means 14 out of 20 trades will be correct. What you need to realize is that you don't know when those 6 losses will occur. You may lose the next 3. Disregard your emotions. Follow your trading system and let the odds of probability work in your favor.

A good mental game book that doesn't really teach you how to trade stocks it teaches you more about the mental state you need to acquire to do it on a consistent basis

Just what I needed

I had read the book in 2009 and loved it.
But listening to the audio book was even better.

Most important trading book I own!

I purchased this book several years ago when it was recommended to me. I wish I had read it then. The audible version of the book makes it much easier for me to complete a book cover to cover. This book is outstanding. Deals with the whole mental side of trading and to me that is 90% of trading. Highly recommend it!

Decent book on trading psychology

First 4-5 hours of the book has very good takes on psychology of trading witch is obviously very important. I felt the content on the first half is very valuable.

Towards the end of the book there is bizarre VERY long section to explain effects of bad experience. The book spends an hour or so making a point that could be made in 5-10 minutes. I feels like author ran out of things to say and really stretched the end to add mass to the book.

That aside I feel this is one of the better books on trading and the topic is definitely very important success factor.

Great book!

Great book for a developing trader. Would give it 6 stars if such option existed. Concentrates solely on psychological part of trading. I think that was the missing bullet from my arsenal. Good fortune to all fellow traders.

Things you must know!

I have 7 years trading experience, and I’m glad I read this book. I’ve referred back to it for a refresh on more than one occasion. There are things in this book that all traders should be mindful of, some original and useful thinking too which will be of great benefit.
Well worth a read.

Extremely valuable concepts, but message repeated for 7 hours..

This won’t make you a millionaire trader over night, and assumes you’ve got some sort of trading strategy/edge. This audiobook is more about mentality and controlling yourself once you’ve found your edge.

Some Gurus won't like this

This is an honest opinion and look at the market purely from a perspective of randomness. Most gurus will leap out of their chairs on hearing this. However I feel not many traders will ever reach this higher thought plain without the psyche work I suppose that's why psychologists in big firms get big bucks. It will require mental work. Could end up bringing forth childhood issues, relationship evaluation, etc. Some may ask is it worth it? A question for the misguided who think trading is the path to an easy life.

excellent info for anyone involved in the markets

the stats don't lie - you can still beat the market by flipping a coin and having the correct money management strategy - however why is it that 9 out of 10 who enter the market fail?

Well a good chunk of that is due to behaviour. This excellent book does a good job of explaining why and how the markets operate against your natural instincts and thus you end up self sabotaging your market returns.

Worth a read by novice and professionals alike
