About this listen
What's worse than Australian wildlife? Mutated Australian wildlife.
Audiobook has been updated with all new male narrator and voices!
The System Apocalypse has come to Australia, altering native organisms and importing even more menacing creatures to the most dangerous continent on Earth. For Kira Kent, plant biologist, the System arrives while she's pulling an all nighter at work with her pair of kids in tow.
Now, instead of mundane parental concerns like childcare and paying the bills, she's got to figure out how to survive a world where already deadly flora and fauna have grown even more perilous - all while dealing with the minutiae of the System’s pesky blue screens and Levels and somehow putting together a community of survivors to forge a safe zone to shelter her son and daughter.
It almost makes her miss the PTA fundraising sales. Almost.
Town Under is the first book in a new series, The System Apocalypse: Australia. It's set in the same universe as Tao Wong's The System Apocalypse and starts in the same time period as Life in the North but focuses on the changes in the deadliest of continents, Australia. Fans of the original series, LitRPG, fantasy, science-fiction and post-apocalyptic novels will want to take a look.
Audio narration adjusted on 2022/01/29.

Love the setting (my home town)
Love Andrea parsneau.
Love the hilarious male Aussie accents!!! I suspect someone showed Andrea the “Darren and Damo” vids on you tube. I lol every time a male character talks!
Unintentionally hilarious.

Narration by both Andrea and Heath was fantastic, great vocal range for characters and emotion, smashed it!
A great start to a fun story.

In all honesty I know that the Australian accent can be an exceedingly fickle mistress for people not from here to pin down with 100% accuracy, it's easy to veer off into a bit of kiwi or south African, it happens. So long as the narrator gives it a good crack and doesn't go all croc Hunter on me I'm all good!
I cannot wait for the next one!!!
An excellent addition to the series!

But. I really am not a fan of the accents. Really. As in really really not a fan. I could barely understand the guys most of the time. Sure, laid back Aussies have a big drawl (and there is a lot of us that do), but a lot of us also sound like we open our mouths and don’t have a blocked nose. Also the women definitely sounded like kiwi or South African more than Aussie. Sorry Andrea — I love your work, but honestly I would have preferred your normal voices than what you gave for most of the women.
In this case when you were faced with actors who couldn’t do the accent, I think it would have been better to go clearer and more neutral accents so the story was easier to hear and follow along.
TL;DR
I love love loved the story (yay for an Aussie POV) but I will admit I spent a heck of a lot of time rewinding when the guys spoke, and thinking about how me, a random non-voice actor Aussie, would have done those voices more accurately and clearer.
Worth the read

She is inexplicably American, with little to no background, because the author was so focused on the game mechanics trying to prop up any semblance of plot. With all the Australian idioms, why make her American?
I’m an Aussie nerd and a gamer and a roleplayer, and the fact it was set in Australia was the only reason I kept with it.
The nerdy overly alliterative narrator drove me nuts.
Only read if you want the career progression of your last RPG read out for 12 hours.
That was hard work
