Intense..

Firstly I'd like to say Tracy Marks and her narrative made this book, her voice is intoxicating, she is so easy to listen to and I would definitely look for more books that's she narrates.
Sebastian York was very good, his Russian slipped at times, I'm not sure if that was on purpose.. To make it more real when he got mad or emotional. He's also very easy on the ear.. Sexy in his deep register. I loved the more Russian tone.
Tormentor Mine was an excellent book and I'd like to read it now, it's a first for me with this author. I will be looking for the second book.
I enjoyed the length of the story also.
The story it self was interesting, captivating in parts, I laughed out load and my heart broke in others.
I would highly recommend Thais story.

Good Story , well Thought Out

Unfortunately as phenomenally successful as Sebastian Yorke is at reading novels in his own voice he makes this book sound like a comedy show...find a guy who DOES know how to do a Russian accent!!!

dark romance...I struggled a bit.....

1st book I've read of Ms Zaires and I'm not sure if I like the storyline, it fits but I feel it needs to be stronger in depth, we know the heroines life is organized and packaged, to break her out of that, I feel needs more. I'm still deciding on book 2

LOVE it but now what...cliffhanger alert

What did you love best about Tormentor Mine?

I love that the story started out dark and it never stopped. There was glimpses of light through the way that Peter cared for Sara and the way that their relationship developed in the story but overall the storyline is dark. The book tugs at your heartstrings and makes you feel for both characters from the very beginning and pulls you in. This is my first Anna Zaires book and I will be going back to get more of hers after this one.

Have you listened to any of Tracy Marks and Sebastian York ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love both of these narrators however this is the first Sebastian York performance that I have listened to where he has used an accent. Overall I think he did a good job trying a Russian accent. It did fade at times but it didn't distract me from the story overall and I wouldn't doc any stars from it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

While I wanted to listen to this in 1 sitting I wasn't able to listen to it in 1 sitting due to having little ones. I listened to it in 2 sittings on a Saturday. I devoured every minute of it and couldn't put it down.

Any additional comments?

CLIFFHANGER alert and book 2 is not out yet so you can't even read the book if you wanted to so for those who don't like cliffhangers and unresolved storylines you may want to wait until book 2 is out later this year. I myself can't wait until book 2 is out to hear "the rest of the story".

So disappointing. Not a good female match for Sebastian York

Is Tracy Marks on speed?? The cadence of her speech is so annoying I had to stop listening after 4:21 minutes. I really hate that I had to stop. Sebastian York is my all-time favorite narrator and his voice is amazing in Chapter 1. As much as I love York I just can’t “torment” myself with listening to Marks for another second. I can’t say anything about the story as I didn’t have a chance to become invested in it.

Couldn’t Get Past Marks’ Performance

What I heard was great story wise, but Tracy Marks has this jarring, halting way of narrating that seriously grated on my nerves. It feels like her part was recorded at 1.5 speed. I ended the torment (ha!) at 4:20. York is awesome as always, but his Russian accent isn’t up to par with his usual flawless performances (he rolls some r’s for example and not others) and the constant relapses back into an American accent kept me from that immersive experience we all know and love. Regardless, I would have listened even with that small flaw but I just couldn’t hang with Marks. Yikes.

Horrible narration by Tracy Marks. Torture!!!

Sebastian York was great as usual in chapter 1. Didn’t make it halfway through chapter 2 with Tracy’s high speed robotic narration. It sounded like a text to speech program sped up x10. Even Siri is more human sounding. I’d like to think its a great story but I wouldn’t know since I refused to subject myself to the horrible narration. Worst Ive ever heard honestly. What a shame.

SPECTACULAR STORYTELLING

Absolutely compelling from the start.. this psychologically dark story consumed my free hours, my busy hours and the hours I was meant to be asleep.. because where could I have stopped, paused or broken the wicked torment? Could it of been when Peter Sokolov, the heartbroken Russian Assassin, prayed, through his agony and rage, for a miracle as he frantically searched the mutilated pile of bodies for his little family?.. nope no way. Could it have been when, a few years and bodies later, innocent Dr. Sara Cobakis was brutally tortured by Peter for her husband’s whereabouts because he’d sworn revenge and retribution on all involved?.. OMG it was tense and, again, no way.. not even close. Well could it have been when Peter’s irrational obsession with Sara took a devastating turn for her when the dangerous sexy alpha suddenly infiltrated her life spinning it off it’s axis into a nightmare of emotional turmoil as she battled terror, guilt, loss, a feeling of wrongness, shame, self-loathing, want, need and lust?.. nope, not a chance of stopping it now.

And, as Peter’s sick fantasy world played out, he pampered Sara, became her protector, spoilt and tempted her.. and had created a dark relationship forged from death, violence, vengeance, heartbreak and pain.. but he had also become the Monster Sara feared most of all. Because, behind the sweet words and tender feelings Peter had for Sara, this wanted Assassin, and his team, were international killers for hire.. they were at the top of the food chain.. and he was dragging Sara into his dangerous world.

Spectacular writing by Anna Zaires because she instantly drew me in then insanely provoked feelings of empathy and love for the orphan, the grief-stricken father, the guilt-ridden widower and even the cold-blooded Assassin within this multi-layered hot anti-hero. She had me on a rollercoaster of feels as the strong but powerless heroine was mind fkd, fkd and worshipped over and over again. The pace and painting of the unfolding story was perfect, the sex scenes were hot and, IMO, it thankfully never reached dark enough to get uncomfortable. I’m so glad it was told in dual POVs and that two very talented and much loved narrators got to bring these characters, and their journey, to life.

Worth a credit? Well, I think you know what my answer’s gonna be.. but, if there’s any doubt, I’m mentally standing, clapping and shouting “YES... YES... YES”.. but I’m also pulling my hair out as I scream “OH NO... NO... NO” because this is a Trilogy folks.

Epic Story

If you could sum up Tormentor Mine in three words, what would they be?

Hot Russian Spy

What other book might you compare Tormentor Mine to and why?

NA

Have you listened to any of Tracy Marks and Sebastian York ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I buy a lot of Sebastian Yorks books. First time listening to Tracy Marks.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was.

Any additional comments?

I really loved this book. Sebastian York is stellar as always. Even with a slight Russian accent his voice is pure silk, 5 stars all the way. THAT being said, Tracy Marks was just OK for me. She reads her part WAY TOO FAST. When she started reading her first chapter I literally grabbed my iPhone and checked the reading speed thinking it had somehow got set to 125% reading speed instead of the regular 100%. She really needs to slow down. Since this was my 1st book narrated by her I'm not sure if this is her usual speed of reading or not. It was as if there was a time limit to how long she had to read. (Maybe there was, IDK). Unless she pairs with SY again, I probably won't listen to one another one of her books! It was that annoying for me! If this team reads the next book in the series I will definitely buy/listen. It's worth putting up with the way-too- fast reading by TM to listen to the soothing voice of SY. Just sayin'!

Captivating!

Anna Zaires did it again! Once again, I have fallen in love with another series and two more characters.

Peter and Sara's story hooked me from page 1 and never stopped. I think this may be my favorite set of characters that Zaires has written.

I truly enjoyed both performers, and would listen to more of their work. Narrators can easily make or break a story, and these two truly brought it to life.

STOP,,, CLIFFHANGER. Don’t waste your time.

Really hate cliffhangers. But here is why this book bothers me. Everything is so unrealistic there is no way a woman is gonna fall for the guy that killed her husband and killed two other people in front of her. Oh and before all that he water boarded her to give up her husbands location. She’s a doctor and helps people. So many things wrong with the story there has to be a lot of smoke and mirrors for them to end up together and her still have her life. FYI NOT GOING TO READ BOOK 2 The reviews already say it’s also a cliffhanger and book 3 is not out. Seems to me that the next two books are going to be justification and reasons that all should be ok.

Obsessively Addictive

My first read by Anna Zaires was not a disappointment. A dark read following Peter Sokolov, a Russian intelligence agent who turns rogue following the death of his wife and child. Five years later, while still avenging his family’s death he comes across Sara Cobakis, and not in a nice romantic way - far from it. Peter cannot get Sara out of his mind and Sara, even though she knows it is so so wrong cannot stop thinking about her torturer in an inappropriate way, so when he forces his way back into her life she has to do everything in her power to do the right thing. I loved the writing, dual POV and lots of emotional drama and sexy time. I loved the characters, and I’m not sure what it says about me, but I completely understood and empathised with Sara. I’m loving dark reads at the moment and this is up there with the best of them. Beautifully narrated by Tracy Marks and Sebastian York, although I must say that Sebastian’s attempt at a Russian accent was not consistent. That aside, it did not affect my enjoyment of this audiobook.

Sebastian York is the highlight

Anna Zaires is the queen at writing dark romance. Twist me was the first book I had read of hers, and whilst utterly disturbing and like nothing I had ever read before, she hooked me. Lucas Kent from the Capture Me trilogy is one of my favourite book boyfriends. Sebastian york as the male narrator for this book lured me, he is awesome and Tormentor mine is no exception! If you like Anna's work then definitely give this a read. I'm not going to lie, I didn't feel this was the most powerful of love story, but it is a good book nonetheless.

Peter and Sara"s story was-for me-not as in tense as the others that came before. it still has a sexy anti-hero but Julian"s crown has not been dislodged!

tedious drama

Yeah yeah I get it she's conflicted, but the story keeps rehashing the same history and feelings. Seriously it was the first 3 chapters on repeat, however, well written. I love Sebastian's narration, Tracey less so, just same phrasing which didn't help with the repetitive pattern of the book. Cliffhanger yes but don't want to go through the female drama in another book. some say it's dark, but it played at dark, nothing challenging more, sinister Cinderella. This had great reviews but not for me.

Tormentingly flat

Any additional comments?

All credit to the narrators, their performance keeps the interest going long after the story line has devolved into tedium. The two protagonists appear to have nothing on which to base their dramatic relationship apart from a recent lack of sex and there are too few additional characters to dilute all the intervening querulous self doubt and brooding. There are some truly engaging "dark" romances out there (seek out a copy of Elizabeth Walker's Dark Sunrise), unfortunately, despite the sterling effort of the narrators, this isn't one of them.

Exciting read!

Peter Sokolov broke her to get the information he needed leaving tragedy in his wake. Now he's back and he wants her. Will she be able to resist this dark, sexy Russian. We first met Peter in the Twist Me series by Anna Zaires, where he was given a list of names of the men responsible for the massacre of his wife and son. This is his revenge. You won't want to miss this exciting read!
