Story
Following the events of one single day in Dublin, the 16th June 1904, and what happens to the characters Stephen Dedalus, Leopold Bloom and his wife, Molly, Ulysses is a monument to the human condition. It has survived censorship, controversy and legal action and even been deemed blasphemous but remains an undisputed modernist classic: ceaselessly inventive, garrulous, funny, sorrowful, vulgar, lyrical and ultimately redemptive. It confirms Joyce's belief that literature 'is the eternal affirmation of the spirit of man'.

Story
From poverty and policing, homelessness and overrun prisons to Grenfell and hostile environments, Britain has long been failing those who need our help the most. There is arguably one unifying theme that links all these afflictions: proximity. Proximity is how close we are to the action and how that affects how we assess, relate to and address whatever that action happens to be. Almost every job requires a level of experience and training with the notable exception of the most powerful people in the country—our political class.

Absolutely hilarious!

Publisher's Summary
The short-story collection from Irish bestselling author, musician and comedian Blindboy Boatclub.
You don't fully appreciate how large a donkey's head is until it's beside you in a Fiat Punto. The view in my mirror was furry and violent. I was driving blind.
Driving with a donkey stuffed in the back seat; jackdaws pecking brains out through the roof of a confessional box; cat piss and astronauts. This is the world not as you see it, but as it is, twisted from the maverick mind of Blindboy Boatclub.
These are stories of the strange unsettlings in the souls of men caught in between the past and the possible; stories of heart-blinding rage and disquieting compassion.
Taking its title from a twelfth-century English manuscript of the same name, which dehumanised the people and culture of Ireland to facilitate domination, Topographia Hibernica is a collection that unravels the knotted threads of humanity, nature and colonisation from a contemporary Irish perspective.
Called 'one of the most gifted writers of his generation' by the Irish Times, Blindboy Boatclub is the essential voice for the Irish condition in the twenty-first century. Topographia Hibernica is his unmissable short-story collection.

Weird and beautiful
The short storey format is great for reformed podcast addicts looking for a nutritional media diet. A life times worth of small observations, it’s worth a second listen just to absorb. Quirky and unexpected you’ll be thinking about what you just heard for days.

Great collection of short stories
Many of the things he's been chatting about in his podcast the last year all come together here, like the cats & the mythology. I personally loved Pamela the solicitor. The poteen maker & the guy buying the guitar & the line dancer were all sterling stories too. Great listen especially as it's read by the author.

Enriching and Entertaining
I enjoyed the ark of these stories. It starts off very dark and then the humour evolves. I recommend getting to know Blindboy Boatclub intimately through his podcast. As a long time listener I felt I had a semi rational insight into some of the stories. It was lovely to hear the fruit of these experiences. I’ve not written to him about it but I’d love to hear him introduce William S Boroughs to his listeners. I’ve also got questions about the vernacular around “anus” and if it’s an Irish thing or particular to him as it appears in most stories in some form. Where to go from there? Please listen to it all, it’s enriching.

Pure literary genius
I simply love the way Blindboy curls language around itself! I normally struggle with audio books due to ADHD, but the lyricism of his words seduced me each time! Brilliant!!
