Publisher's Summary

THE MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING PHENOMENON
This is the story of Sam and Sadie. It's not a romance, but it is about love.
When Sam catches sight of Sadie at a crowded train station one morning he is catapulted straight back to childhood, and the hours they spent immersed in playing games.
Their spark is instantly reignited and sets off a creative collaboration that will make them superstars. It is the 90s, and anything is possible.
What comes next is a decades-long tale of friendship and rivalry, fame and art, betrayal and tragedy, perfect worlds and imperfect ones. And, above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love.

Great book, didn’t like the narrator
This is so different to things I’d normally read. It’s not a happy book, but an honest portrayal of complicated, but important friendships.
I liked the change of narrator for one chapter, it felt appropriate.
I was surprised my the change in style for the pioneers section.
Great story and characters are SO REAL, but the reading is too flat, it lets it down.
If I read it again. I’d read it rather than listen

you don't have to enjoy video games to love this!
This is one of my favourite books I've read this year. I really enjoyed the performances, which were very well done and enjoyable. I don't often cry, but this book got me! it's beautifully written and gives a great insight into the gaming world, which you don't need to be interested in to enjoy the book. I really enjoyed the characters and this development. They were relatable, human, damaged and good. The storyline went in a direction I didn't expect, but it was believable and well curated. Please read this book, it's beautiful.

Loved this adventure
Goodbye Sadie Green and Sam Mazer. For now, I will read this again.
A cleverly written, easy to enjoy novel that spans 30 years (from the 90s.)
At the risk of dropping a spoiler, I will keep this brief. Friendship, conflict, love, things circling back to the beginning. Successes and losses. Wonderfully deep and complex characters, beyond the two I mentioned above.
If you enjoy gaming and people watching you will love this book and the insights into each of the characters.

Thought provoking story of a generation
What a great read. Loved everything about this book, from the way the author describes the characters, builds them over generations and carries themes throughout to the touching on of many topical experiences of a generation in a non-confrontational way. One of my top reads for sure!

Very interesting read
This was a different kind of story for me, and I really enjoyed it. The time span it covers allows you to be part of the characters stories through different phases of their lives. The characters are real and flawed (more than I am normally used to - but its written really well). I also enjoyed the performances, well suited to the characters and the story.

I never knew I could love a character as much as I loved Sam. This book has made me nostalgic in every way. I hope this isn't the last of Sam Mazer. Luckily, live is long, unless it is not. Thanks, Gabrielle.

You can be a non-gamer to find this interesting.
Perhaps because I listened to thins over an interrupted period of time it began to peter out for me. Sadie and Sam’s periods of ‘no-speaks’ seemed a little puerile as they got older. I enjoyed the premise of the story, which I found original, even though I know nothing about gaming. I enjoyed the book overall, though the robotic reading distracted in the beginning. I came to associate it with the techie world the characters inhabited and it seemed to suit the story after all.

Flat
The story was ok - it flowed along and told the story. But there was no adventure or excitement.
The characters for all the detail still came across as flat.
Sadie was selfish and lacked self awareness which whilst common the your early 20s was frustrating. I’m sure others found Sam frustrating. I liked Marx the most of the three main characters.
Overall if you don’t want to spend time on this book but want to cause it is popular don’t. It’s an okay book but nothing to write home about.

3.5 stars
Started off as a potential 5 star read/listen but the unnecessary melodrama of Sadie (who became such an unlikable character) and the rampant use of miscommunication as a trope lowered the score for me.
It’s still a good book/story but it’s very overhyped IMO. There are some genuinely sweet moments in the story + I ate the story up quickly— which is great, but otherwise T&T&T was just OK.
The same can be said with the narration, the female narrator’s voice is robotically sombre in which the delivery can really drain the emotion from certain scenes. The male narrator is much better though for spoilery reasons his appearance is brief in the audiobook.

I almost didn’t listen because of the sample but …
I loved it, the voice seemed robotic from the sample but any worry I had faded within the first chapter. This feels like a story that will stay with me for a really long time. A book about friendship. I don’t often want to re-listen to a book but I know I will come back to this again

Surprisingly incredible
I normally hate books about relationships. Particularly contemporary literature. I prefer high fantasy and historic non fiction. But - this book is one of my all time favourites. Everything about it is perfect. I would urge anyone to read it, even if prima facie it does not seem as if they would enjoy it… because they will.

A game of life.
At the star, her sibilance (isss) and plosive (puh) sounds were extremely irritating.
But, it improved a lot, and I settled into a wonderfully tender, sweet story of love, regret, and friendship.
Highly recommended. A lovely book.

You do not need to be a gamer to fall utterly in love with this book
Blockscapes and Blitz aside, I am not a gamer. In fact, I’ve more than likely been quite dismissive of video games in the past. BUT Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow made me appreciate the creativity and depth of both the games and the people who play them.
The way the games are written into the book is so clever and accessible. That said, there was one chapter which I felt was too long, though when its purpose was revealed, I was so impressed by the author’s ingenuity, I forgot my brief frustration.
I loved that this book’s focus is on a m/f friendship, a relationship I’ve not seen explored too often in novels. The complexity of Sadie and Sam’s love for each other is so well drawn. Yes, they are both, at times, infuriating, but they’re also passionate and funny and loveable.
The narration too is fantastic.

Love, Loss, Romance and Gaming
Stunning, the best fiction book I've read in years. The characters all so rounded the plot gives the reader exactly what they want whilst feeling a deep bond with each character.

Not for me.
This book is dire. The story was dull and the narrators were both robotic. 2 stars.

A story for today
An interesting glimpse into the gaming world with sensitively described appealing characters and low key suspense.

Had to force myself to finish
I wanted to love this… it just wasn’t for me. I’m so disappointed that this was goodreads 2022 fiction winner! Firstly, I would say only listen if you really love gaming. I didn’t like any of the characters at all. Really didn’t care about what happened to them. Also, the narration was so boring. There was absolutely no conviction and no change in voice for any of the characters. I found myself zoning out. Won’t be recommending this.
