Publisher's Summary

Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times best seller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology.

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe — it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order". But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

Not as good as the first one

The 1st book in the Scythe arc was SO GOOD that I was disappointed that the 2nd one wasn't as good. There was far too much focus on a new character Greyson and less on the main characters of the 1st book (Citra, Rowan, Faraday). I just hate that the villain *SPOILER ALERT* was revived with Tyger's body (RIP partyboy). I just can't take Goddard seriously with him sounding so much like the partyboy. The narrator did a fabulous job though. The ending left a lot to be desired but hopefully the third book will tie up the loose ends.

What a roller coaster!!!

Like any book, there are good and bad moments. Times when it’s impossible to put this book down, and times when you’re anticipating the next whirlwind. I have read hundreds or fantasy books and this one has such a great ending, my jaw dropped. Well done Mr. Shusterman.

I love everything

This is one of the most enjoyable pieces of fiction I have ever encountered in my entire life. The plot keeps surprising me, going to places I would have never dreamed of. I’m am internally screaming about the last few chapters, and I’m already longing for the rest of the story!

Thunderhead

good story. Did not like the Cliffhanger ending at all. did not like some of the undertone messages regarding God.

4.5 stars

The bad parts of Thunderhead are more tired than they are bad. It's overflowing with bad YA tropes. Also, the pretentious scythe names are super cringy.

However, there's plenty to love. The politics and plot are much more mature than the first book. The world development has expanded. The conspiracies within conspiracies theme is maintained without getting too clever or convoluted for its own good. The twists and turns feel believable. As with so much sci-fi, there are well-worn questions about the nature of god and religion. But these are well worn for a reason and are handled well in Thunderhead.

OMG! Not what I was expecting!

I read the first book, Scythe, as part of a book club at work. We were supposed to read/listen the first 50% of the book by the first meeting, and by that time, half of the participants have read the second book already! I thought they were crazy, but actually, they were so right!

Usually, the second book of a trilogy or a saga is weaker than the first one, and that is because we had so many expectations for that book that we get a bit disappointed that it was not as good as we thought it would be. However, Thunderhead is as good as the first one. If Hephaestus was the blacksmith of the gods, Shusterman is his equivalent in plot twits. I was gagging, shocked, gasping, and struck while listening to this book!

Wow! A blockbuster book

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a blockbuster book if there is, then this is it.

The first book was incredible and you must read it first to understand the concept of the storyline. This second installment was just outstanding. It had an amazing, action-packed and riveting storyline that ended with a cliffhanger that had me gnashing my teeth for more.

I don’t think I have stated this before in any of my other reviews but I daresay that this is one of the best books I’ve read all year.

Bravo Mr. Shusterman - if all your books are this great- I’ll be purchasing them all tonight.

I'm Speechless...

I can't say what how I feel... but I know despite how it ended, I love it! I am visibly shaken and I'm sure I scared my family when I got home. Now I'm left to wonder what will be the next piece to move in this complex game of life and death.

So many lives are at stake and many where loss... I still can't believe it...

I can only hope that Scythe Anastasia, Lucifer, and Faraday along with Greyson to put an end to the destruction that New Order of Scyths leaders started.

I can't wait to read/listen to the next installment because the end was just beginning of the real fight and their losses had just started...

What a great book.

I got the first book the first book, Scythe, because my daughter was reading it and she really liked it. As a parent I was always looking for something to find in common. It was a great book and I immediately ordered this book the same day I finished the previous. I was even happier with this book than the last. The pace is quick and interesting. There were no overly slow sections and it kept my attention.
The narrator did a great job. His voice was smooth and had wonderfully placed inflections. He flowed naturally and allowed me to think about the story with little thought of who was narrating it .
The ending was very energetic with great mental visuals and was not completely predictable. While the the book was getting toward the very end I was worried that there may be a lingering question or two, but to my delight everything was wrapped up nicely. I hope to see a 3rd book soon.
