Publisher's Summary

Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times best seller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology.

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe — it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order". But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

Character development

The story is so well made shown from multiple perspectives giving the reader a better knowledge of everything happening whilst leaving you in the dark

Greed second book!

The storyline really starts to pick up here, and there are a lot of different sub stories going on at the same time. I did enjoy the switching between characters and getting just a bit of their stories at a time.

That ending though! No spoilers here but I can definitely say my mouth was literally wide open as I read and realised what was happening. Loved it!

Audiobook comment: I’m fairly neutral about the narrator. I don’t have overly positive things to say, or negative. He was decent, not an annoying voice, but not a standout narrator. He did vary his voice a little for different characters, but not a huge amount. Some characters were more memorable than others, but at times the change between a character speaking and the narrating wasn’t as clear as it could have been.

I think this is the best book series I've ever read.

You should read it. I haven't read book three yet but if one and two were this good, I can only imagine.

Unreal

This was a brilliant follow up to the first book. That ending! Oomph. The narrator did an exemplary job too. Can’t wait to listen to the third and final of the arc!

better than the first book. But still too long

Like the first book this one took forever to get into the climax of the story. Although the plot has improved in terms of story development and the characters are more interesting, I did not like the tone or voice of the book. It sounds very self-righteous and just... annoying. It's very philosophical 90% of the time and I felt like I'm listening to a documentary rather than a fiction novel.
