In the aftermath of a hurricane, a series of strange events plague the coastal waters off Florida. People go into the water and never return. Corpses of killer whales drift ashore, ravaged from enormous bite marks. A fishing trawler is found adrift, with a mysterious gash in its hull.

Transferred to the coastal town of Merit, police officer Leonard Riker uncovers the horrible reality of an enormous thresher shark lurking off the coast. Forty feet in length, it has taken a territorial claim to the waters near the town harbor. Armed with three-inch teeth, a scythe-like caudal fin, and unmatched aggression, the beast seeks to kill anything sharing the waters.

Michael Cole has another book, of a similar sharky theme called Scar. Of the two, Scar is my preferred story, but this should not take away from Thresher. It's still great. It's still fun, lots of crazy things happen, and there is a lot of sharky goodness.
There is no reason why you won't like this book if you like books like Jaws etc.

This is not what I was expecting. I thought it would be your typical want to be Jaws or Meg story but it was actually really great. Will definitely be on my permanent list and one that I revisit.

i was half expecting the usual shark book but this was fun and entertaining and fast paced. i applauded loudly when the trio got what was coming to them :)

Like watching a movie. Massive homage to Jaws but in a cool way. I really hope there's a sequel to this, that epilogue leaves it pretty tantalising

This is an interesting take on the tried and true formula. Fans of Peter Benchley's Jaws will love this. There is a lot more to this story than just a giant shark, although it is not hard to see where the inspiration came from. The narrator is terrific and really brings the story to life. This will keep most people entertained right until the fairly predictable end.

The most farfetched thing wasn't the giant shark, it was that Riker was ever a good cop, or even a decent cop.
