About this listen

A SPELLBINDING NOVEL FROM SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR, PHILIPPA GREGORY

'There is only one bond that I trust: between a woman and her sisters. We never take our eyes off each other. In love and in rivalry, we always think of each other.'

When Katherine of Aragon is brought to the Tudor court as a young bride, the oldest princess, Margaret, takes her measure. With one look, each knows the other for a rival, an ally, a pawn, destined – with Margaret’s younger sister Mary – to a sisterhood unique in all the world. The three sisters will become the queens of England, Scotland and France.

United by family loyalties and affections, the three queens find themselves set against each other. Katherine commands an army against Margaret and kills her husband James IV of Scotland. But Margaret’s boy becomes heir to the Tudor throne when Katherine loses her son. Mary steals the widowed Margaret’s proposed husband, but when Mary is widowed it is her secret marriage for love that is the envy of the others. As they experience betrayals, dangers, loss and passion, the three sisters find that the only constant in their perilous lives is their special bond, more powerful than any man, even a king.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story who's characters were brought to life by a terrific narrator.

captivating

Sometimes it lost me too. I love fictionalised history. These largely powerless women felt quite pathetic at times but I shouldn't view their histories through a modern lens.

A long story that sometimes gripped me

Great book, lovely narration, The book had me enthralled from start to finish and certainly makes my car journeys a lot more enjoyable and even the odd traffic jam doesn't bother me now!!
I will definitely get more of her books and will seek out ones read by Bianca.

Brilliant as usual

I enjoyed this story, which is a perspective any modern woman would be proud of.

A unique perspective on History

I’ve read a number of Gregory’s Tudor books which I’ve enjoyed (along with movie/tv dramatisations. This one stood out in the way it was narrated by Margaret. Got to say though, there were times where she was extremely exacerbating! Would have loved to hear Katherine and Mary’s voice/perspective rather than just Margaret’s perception of what they were thinking/experiencing.

Great book

I cannot stand to finish it, terrible story and whining narration does not make it pleasant.
