About this listen

Picking up right where he left off, Paul Carter pulls out more tall tales of a mad, bad and dangerous life in the international oil trade. Starting with action and mayhem galore This is Not a Drill sets an unrelenting pace that just doesn't let up, as Paul almost drowns when the Russian rig he's working on begins to capsize; is reunited with his dad - another adrenaline junkie; gets married; hangs out with his rig pig buddies in exotic locations; and spends a couple of interesting weeks in Afghanistan...©2007 Paul Carter. Critic Reviews

"Get ready for loosely connected, bawdy stories about the author and his outrageous friends. Some tales come from the oil rigs Carter worked on, but most take place in bars, where misogynistic alpha males drown themselves in a sea of liquor. How about the one where a bloke with a glass eye pops it into someone's beer, and the crowd waits until the victim quaffs the last ounce to see it staring at him from the bottom of his glass? Carter narrates the audiobook in his working-class Australian accent, loaded with the national vocabulary of 'mates', 'queuing', 'boiled sweets', and 'rubbing one out' (think gas). His rapid narrative style leaves the listener little time to ponder the novel metaphors, similes, and analogies." (AudioFile Magazine)

A funny, funny laugh out loud second instalment of a part of Paul Carters life story on oil rigs. My father recommended the first book originally to me which I loved and have given many hard copies of this book to many friends and people I know (male and female).
It could be understood as a blokes book but don’t miss out if you are female, I have read all of his books and now listened to the Audiobooks and loved them. I do find his voice a little monotone but it can’t bother me too much as I have repeatedly re-listened and especially re-read his books (I have them all). He is funny, witty and lives a life around legendary characters I think a lot of us would wish we were a part of.
I hope more books will get written, especially about his dads life.

Love Paul Carter

The navy gives all his characters, especially the Ned Kelly moment. Well almost bought tears to my eyes the way the writer can take something so serious and put an Aussie twist to it

Stories on the rig and also Ambu is always good
