_______________
Briseis’s mother is dead, but there is one chance to bring her back: find the last piece of the deadly Absyrtus Heart. If Bri is to locate the missing piece, she must turn to the blood relatives she’s never known, learn of their secret powers and take her place in their ancient lineage. But Bri is not the only one who wants the Heart, and her enemies will stop at nothing to fulfil their own ruthless plans. Strengthened by the sisterhood of ancient magic, can she harness her power to save the people she loves most?
Kalynn Bayron, bestselling author of Cinderella is Dead and This Poison Heart, returns with the second and final book in this stunning, empowering and inclusive fantasy duology.

I would highly recommend this series if you feel in a funk for fantasy and want something set in the modern day with some appearances of gods/goddess of the past. The connection to mythology and reimagining / reinterpretation of long lost history held this series together. The scenes on the open ocean especially conjured up the same feeling of watching Pirates of the Caribbean.
Once again the characters were central to the books success but the ending was inevitable from the very first book and felt as though I was just listening to confirm my suspicions.
I really wanted to love this series as I can’t think of better power than growing plants. I was left with a deep feeling of longing for more which is the worst way for a series to end.
Pros: the characters, the magic, the ocean scene
Cons: the villains, some central motivations for the characters and emotional rubber banding, paint by numbers plot
An easy series to ease your way back into fantasy
