Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada, read by Skye Bennett.

When a lone soldier, Cole, arrives with news of Lachlan Agatta's death, all hope seems lost for Catarina. Her father was the world's leading geneticist and humanity's best hope of beating a devastating virus. Then, hidden beneath Cole's genehacked enhancements, she finds a message of hope: Lachlan created a vaccine.

Only she can find and decrypt it, if she can unravel the clues he left for her. The closer she gets, the more she finds herself at risk from Cartaxus, a shadowy organization with a stranglehold on the world's genetic tech. But it's too late to turn back. There are three billion lives at stake, two people who can save them and one final secret that Cat must unlock. A secret that will change everything.

Great title, nique story - generic plot

Set two years into a post apocalyptic future we find our main character Bobcat AKA your generic teen in any typical romance novel stuck between a clearly impossible choice... Save the world and pick a boyfe... Saving the world was the easy part. Please read this if you are a 14 year old that couldn't understand the depth and complexity of the Hunger Games, the Maze Runner or Playschool. Cool and innovative ideas ruined by the annoying characters... This story would have been better told by someone who had to survive the plague.

On a side note... Skye Bennett did not do her best performance... The changing of pitch on occasion hurt my ears. Only while playing through my speakers. Headphone were acceptable.

Overall average at best.

Not sure

I found this book quite hard work. The concept is very clever but I found the writing style slightly immature; the overuse of similes and description was repetitive and tiresome until I became immune to it and no longer registered the detail.
It might have been better if I had read the book rather than listened to it. The narration was a bit distracting. The continuous breathy earnestness of the narrator also became a bit wearisome as it never altered.
I will listen to the next book but I am not desperate to do so as I have been with other audible books.
