About this listen

After 25 years serving as the human Monitor of the Interstellar Ark, Hermes, Orion is scheduled to be placed back into hibernation with the other crewmembers.

Knowing he'll die there and be replaced before the ship's voyage is over, he decides that he won’t — can’t — accept that fate.

Whatever it takes, Orion will escape Hermes and see what's beyond, even if it means defying the regulations of his only friend — the ship-wide artificial intelligence known as Dan.

From the Washington Post and number one Audible best-selling duo, Rhett C. Bruno and Jaime Castle, comes a harrowing science fiction short story that will leave you questioning exactly what it means to be alive.

Love Ray, and think he was ideal for this voice. The story was well written, thoughtful, and ‘heart warming’!

Even though he only does two voices, one could tell this narrator has immense talent. The other books I’ve heard him narrate and the range of convincing characters he brings to life verified this for me. IMHO def worth checking out the other works he narrates.

For a short story, it managed to fit in a convincing metaphor of sorts for the way we float through life and maybe even a commentary on how we as a society treat those no longer considered young/useful.

To the reviewer who said it didn’t have a happy ending, I felt it couldn’t have been happier!

Spoiler??!: You don’t have to be dead to not be living, and through determination and courage, one can choose to make their life meaningful (if only to themselves, if only for a little while) by being fully present and having agency for their death.

A simple but enjoyable ride through space :) Fantastic Narration
