About this listen

It's not going well for NE Division: half the force is off sick, all leave has been cancelled, someone has firebombed a migrant hostel and there's a massive climate change protest march happening this Saturday. With officers dropping like flies, Detective Inspector Logan McRae has to kick off a major murder investigation with a skeleton staff of misfits, idiots and malingerers - aka DS Steel's team - until the top brass can arrange back-up from other divisions.

But, as bad as everything seems, there's something far more sinister lurking in the heat haze of this sweltering Aberdeen summer: something that's been building for years. Something that longs to sing its horrible song . . .

And it's clear that things are going to get much, much worse before this is over.

The unbeatable triumvirate of audiobook delight - Stuart MacBride, Logan Macrea and Steve Worsley. And it's a corker of a story, too. I'm hoping for at least one or two more from this team, before Logan has to retire.

Logan returns!

So good to read a Logan Macrae novel. Full of sarcasm, black humour and in-your-face reality. The crimes kept my attention and the resolutions were somewhat unexpected. There did seem to be a lot of narrative making this a long read in places.

For value and enjoyment I wouldn’t start with this instalment - knowing all the characters and their quirks made it very enjoyable.

Great to have the team back!

The humour and the language all come together to make a really great read. I had forgotten how good these characters are together. It’s been too long since they were all together. Thank you for writing another in this wonderful series. I loved every minute of it.
