About this listen
It's not going well for NE Division: half the force is off sick, all leave has been cancelled, someone has firebombed a migrant hostel and there's a massive climate change protest march happening this Saturday. With officers dropping like flies, Detective Inspector Logan McRae has to kick off a major murder investigation with a skeleton staff of misfits, idiots and malingerers - aka DS Steel's team - until the top brass can arrange back-up from other divisions.
But, as bad as everything seems, there's something far more sinister lurking in the heat haze of this sweltering Aberdeen summer: something that's been building for years. Something that longs to sing its horrible song . . .
And it's clear that things are going to get much, much worse before this is over.

Excellent story to keep you enthralled
I’ve really missed the Logan McRae series. I love the character interaction in this entire series.
This book felt incredibly detailed. It painted a very detailed picture of what was happening so I was able to get lost in the story.
Bringing back Steve Worsley as the narrator was excellent, he is easy to listen to and the way he reads brings the characters to life. I much prefer his style of reading to some of the other narrators who insist on using stupid, distracting voices.
Overall, excellent book. Hope we won’t have to wait as long for the next Logan book.

Great to have the team back!
So good to read a Logan Macrae novel. Full of sarcasm, black humour and in-your-face reality. The crimes kept my attention and the resolutions were somewhat unexpected. There did seem to be a lot of narrative making this a long read in places.
For value and enjoyment I wouldn’t start with this instalment - knowing all the characters and their quirks made it very enjoyable.
