Tom Vellner has brilliantly and lovingly crafted a proudly gay love story set amongst the elite realms of the ATP men’s professional tennis tour. As an avid and passionate tennis player and aficionado myself, I appreciated Vellner’s accurate and detailed depiction of the nuances of the often gruelling, sometimes glamorous life of a player on the pro tennis tour. This has clearly been written by someone who is a true tennis fan - from Vellner’s vivid descriptions of forehands, backhands, serves and drop shots to taking the reader around the world from Melbourne to Miami, from Paris to New York - to the actual real life ATP tournaments that offer players the promise of being enshrined in tennis history. After the well deserved global success of “Heated Rivalry”, this NEEDS to be adapted into the gay tennis rivals-to-lovers television series (preferred so all of the well observed characters can have sufficient screen time to explore their stories) or movie so many of us have been hungrily waiting for. Loved every moment! Amazing sports scenes and fulfilling details about the tournaments, the travel, the warmups and coaching alongside all the pressure and loneliness of being a solo athlete and coming out in Pro sports.
Loved all the characters, the various settings and the narration was excellent!
