About this listen

Levity works the streets of Welcome Boulevard, begging people for money. It keeps food in his belly, a leaky roof over his head, and he gets to do it with his best friend, Clove. No, it's not the ideal life, but he does what he must to survive.

Salvatore Grillo is a man who is used to getting what he wants. He's a loyal brother to his autistic sister, runs numerous business empires, and knows how to make people to bend to his will. It's not often someone comes along and shakes things up.

Levity's idea to pull in more money draws Salvatore's attention, and while being the focus of a crime boss should be terrifying, Levity is intrigued by the man. Not to mention, Sal is as gorgeous as he is powerful. The two gravitate toward one another and soon are wrapped up tightly in each other's worlds. When enemies try to break through their doors and their lives, Salvatore has to do everything in his power to save not just himself but Levity too.

Not knowing who is behind all the chaos or when they will strike makes their happily ever after almost impossible. Time's running out for Sal and Levity. Will they survive, or will their story end before it's even begun?

Contains mature themes.

Salvatore Grillo is the capo of his mafia-ish empire. Like a modern-day Fagan, one of his ‘businesses’ involves taking a percentage of what homeless people can panhandle from waiting cars on his patch of streets. Levity and his best friend, Clove, work the streets of Welcome Boulevard and they come to Sal’s attention, impressing him with how much money they can make. But when Levity and Clove attempt to ask for a greater wage, they draw the ire of their immediate boss which not only puts them in danger, but puts Levity in hospital. Sal is entranced by Levity from the moment they meet but before they can establish any sort of relationship, Sal’s family issues blow up and things get very ugly indeed.

So, this mafioso romance is like a modern-day fairytale where the evil prince has a change of heart and comes to rescue not only the poverty-stricken person but also others like him. The premise, action scenes, and the twists and turns were all highly engaging but I struggled with the cheesy dialogue, which just seemed to get cheesier over time, especially whenever the hate-filled stepmother swept into the room. In some ways this is an instalove romance, because there really isn’t much time or opportunity for Sal and Levity to move from lust to love between all the thug action, family arguments, kidnapping and threats. Having said all that, I’ll be very likely to buy the second book which focuses on Clove and Sal’s 2IC, Marcel. 🎧 Philip Alces (as the more august Sal) and Alexander Cendese (as the sunny Levity) were both very appropriate choices to voice their characters and they performed well.

Engaging mafioso instalove romance!

great story...if very idealistic (but that is kinda why I'm here). the story felt too short. I would have liked to see the ending fleshed out a bit more.

Alexander is the perfect voice for Levity. he really embodies the character.

excellent narration but the story isn't long enough
